I went to watch the transformers movie last night with a friend and his two sons. He convinced me to go and i got to say I don't regret going too watch it. It was great in the sense that i was supporting my local theater and had enjoyable action. That said I feel like i just sat through a nearly three hour toy commercial.

My biggest gripes

1. The three characters we are first introduced were stereotypes and they felt like a poor version of their respected types.

2. The villain who was blackops made absolutely no sense at all. You have a squad of armed men and think killing your unarmed captives is beneficial? You wish to protect the american people by executing the american people for reasons. Hell, Eiling from justice league was written better than this guy.

3. The death of the surfer guy was forgettable even for the other three characters. When i got done watching this movie i had to think really hard just to remember the character had even been in the movie.

4 you could have probably cut the first 40 mins to hour of the movie and it would probably made this movie a hell of a lot better.

5. the action scenes would have been so much better if they were actually focused on the robots instead of cutting back to the scared humans every five seconds.

Overall the story was nearly nonexistent and characters stereotypes, right down to the random Asian guy channeling Jackie Chan.

Your thoughts and gripes with the new transformers movie?

it was so spectacularly dumb it became a pretty good cartoon action movie. though, it was a bit too long. the movie could've ended in two occasions separate of the actual ending.

seriously that part when bud lights just randomly fell out of a car and blanketed the ground was the most obvious product insert ever. i thought it was hilarious in it's unabashed audacity.

Thank you for reminding me of that though i must admit the line about spaceship insurance was hilarious. Edit: its weird just how forgettable most of the movie was.

The part that didn't sit right with me was that the two main bad guys, the inventor Jacob and the CIA guy who worked with Lockdown, were determined to kill the three good guys because they had some truth to expose their lies and end everything.

...But they really didn't. Most of the world was already on the government's side that the Transformers and other alien guys were inherently evil and should be removed. Jacob wasn't inherently tied to the disappearance and deaths of the Transformers except for the deal with government guy and melting down the bots to make transformium. The CIA guy could easily have just let those guys try to tell their story to the world, probably get laughed out of the room, then dispose of them.

Also I was pretty disappointed they killed Lucas in the first forty minutes by that transformium bomb. He was legitimately the only interesting character.

Given that my friend made me watch the other ones, I came away liking this one. It's better than the other films, mostly due to Wahlberg and Tucci and an absence of LeBouf. Even the required romance was better than the last ones. Cinematography was better. Fights were better. Overall, it was all better than the last ones.
