I also believe it's going to the 360. I think Atlus is bringing it over. I'll edit if I can find the article.

Edit: And here it is.

Didn't Joystiq say they made a mistake on that one?
No idea. If you have a link, it would be most appreciated.

Also, as I said above, the game is developed by Frozenbyte, the publisher on PSN is Nobilis. Might want to correct that in the story, Earnest. :)

Thanks.

As for the article, well, I can still hope (I am getting a PS3 very soon, so it really doesn't matter either way, but still). Or, I could wait until I'm back in college, and just use one a Dorm-mate's PS3. That would work as well.

Yeah, Sony has trouble marketing some of their games....

Trine definitely looks interesting and I will be keeping an eye on it in the future.
Yeah their marketing and PR could use some help... a good amount of it.
I swear, if I was actually hired by Sony, I'd probably be a million times better than their current PR staff (though I'd probably screw up so big not even yo momma's ass could compare! [sup]*OOOOOOOoohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!* just kidding[/sup]

I bought it on Steam. Sure, there's not much bang for buck compared to other deals, but I really like it. If they release some DLC and/or modding tools, then I think the game will have some longevity.

On the swing mechanic: it's a little rough, but if you play around for a while it becomes really powerful. The thief can solo a large amount of the content if your timing is good.

Because physics is at the core of the gameplay, there is not just one solution for each puzzle; in fact you can even find a way the developers have never thought of!
Roll my eyes, Half Life 2 did that in 2004. But then again that's me being a cynical prototypical Forum critic prick, so I'll just let it slide as "Oh yeah, maybe it'll be cool, maybe it'll be crappy, but either way won't change the world."

I buy sooo many PSN titles. 71 total. Soo... yeah, I'm excited. I'm a guru of indie console games.

Actually Half Life 2 doesn't offer so many choices. I've replayed it a few times, and never really saw any outstanding other options in many places. It's very streamlined.
As for Trine, I saw a vid on Steam and immediately had a Gauntlet vibe. These kinds of games bring new life to old gamestyles and I hope to see more. It doesn't surprise me Sony doesn't want to pick up the ball, why should they? They'd rather spend money on tried and true titles, all with a number after their name. Especially wastes of money on websites with just countdowns on them. Just once I'd like to go through an entire year of game releases, with none of the titles ending in a number. (I suppose spinoffs can be allowed, but put a sock in the sequels for a bit.)
Microsoft has a better track record, I hope to see them pick this up for XBLA for reals.

Uh, Frozenbyte is the studio that actually made the game. Nobilis is just the publisher on the PSN version if I recall.
*nods* Frozenbyte is Finnish, Nobilis has a French office that deals with PR.

Maybe that translates into "French developer" in American, what would I know?

Dunno, the demo was meh, I don't like PhysX in 2D games because it's designed for realistic behaviour, not for being conductive to gameplay. Crazy Machines suffered from having proper physics instead of TIM-style simplified physics and IMO Trine does the same. Icarian (er, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits) felt much better physics-wise just because it had a simplified engine that made it easier to handle.

I tried the demo on Steam, and really enjoyed it, all except for one thing, that being the swinging mechanic on the grappling hook. However they implemented swinging, it seems to have an artificial limit on how high you can swing, and it makes it much harder than it should be to swing yourself up and over things.
Yeah, it seems like the grappling hook can't lift you higher than the point you attach to, so it can't actually be used to go higher.

My guess is that it was a balance decision, to make the wizard and his blocks more useful.
Jordan and I played this at E3, and you wouldn't think that the ability to make boxes would be all that great, but it's loads of fun. I'm not sure how it is single player -- having to switch between characters, Three Dirty Dwarves style -- but co-op it was a hoot. And soooooo gorgeous.

For the record, we played the PS3 version.

Is it just me or does this sound like a casual game?
Is it just me or does categorizing games as casual and hardcore seem lame?
Agreed. I have no idea if it's a casual game and frankly I don't give a toss. I really enjoyed the demo and when I get some money it's going on my list of Steam games. (Or PS3 if it seems to be the best choice.)

Despite my frustration with the swing mechanic's artificial angle limitation, I was pleased that it obeyed conservation of momentum when I reduced the radius of my arc mid-swing (pulling in the grappling hook while swinging increased the speed of my swing). I was able to use that to launch myself upward at the end of the swing, and get where I wanted to be. That being said, it was harder than it should've been (in a purely physics-based environment).
