There were a group of us at a friends house for a BBQ. Everyone was in a circle talking

Friend 1: ?I?d play some music but my iTunes is all messed up right now?
Friend 2 pulls out iphone to check txt or something.
Friend 1: ?Rocking the iphone huh?
Friend 2: ?Hell Yeah!?

They high five. I roll my eyes.

Friend 1: ?Yeah I love apple!?
Friend 2: ?Me 2 I don?t get buy anything PC or android?
Friend 1: ?Yeah its so great, its so nice not having to worry about viruses or anything, and it all JUST WORKS?
Me: ?Says the guy who?s iTunes is messed up??

Cue laughter from everyone including those involved in the Mac circle jerk. It also had the added effect of changing the subject because I have found that?

PERSONAL OPINION TIME

Mac only users just love to trade bumper sticker slogans to each other and pat themselves on the back for being smarter then the others! These aren?t the people who happen to have an iphone. These are the people who Have a iphone and macbook and mac desktop and will fall into a vortex of self accolades if anybody similar comes along.

I work with many of these people and it annoys me. It felt great to zing one publicly.

Hehehehe that made me chuckle. Yeah the fanboys of any particular group, genre or device usually piss me off to no extent.

I like your story though man

It doesn't help that Apple commercials are also equally conceited.

"If you don't have an iPhone... well, you just don't have iPhone."

You know that South Park episode about hybrid cars and "smug" storms? THAT'S APPLE.

This one guy said Macs dominates everything. I told him he can't customize his Mac, which makes it awful. He said, " so what if I can't change my desktop wallpaper!" I laughed and challenged him. His 1 week Mac was three times slower than my 2 year old laptop.
LOL.

Yes I generally feel like they are way overpriced for performance. 2500 Macbook or 700 laptop...not to hard. I think the people that buy them have to convince themselves that that extra 2000 is worth something.

Then there's people like me who actually know how to use computers. ALL THE COMPUTERS.

To be fair, out of all the major platforms, Mac OS X is the least annoying in my opinion (laptop user here: it's the trackpad that makes it great). However, it does not offer anything that's much greater than say Windows or Linux. Especially if what you want to do is run a server or play video games. I have appropriate machines for both applications.

I once went to an Apple "hiring seminar" for the Apple Stores. Holy shit. I wasn't prepared for all the... self-fellating arrogance! I didn't get hired.

By the way: you can customize Macs. Very much so. Even physically upgrading is easy, at least on my Macbook. It's just that the average user doesn't spend the time to figure it out. I've even gone so far as changing the window manager to dwm but that was not worth the effort (Cocoa apps--i.e., most of the applications--would not run in dwm because dwm kind of expected stuff being done in X11 server).

I've said it before: I will never buy an Apple product until they apologize for those "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commercials.

The thing that gets me is all the Hipster/fake Socialist college punks. The kids who are complaining about the hardships of the poor, and how "the man" is keeping us all down. Yet they all own Mac's (usually) bought off their parents money, thus keeping one of the more greedy companies in power

Well, you can't get them on false advertising with that.

I actually found them offensive. Calling PC users lame, fat, and old whereas apple users were hip, young, and up-to-speed. Although I am pretty sure Macintosh is older than Microsoft (the main company they were bashing in those commercials).

Thankyou sir. A well deserved Zing. I'm frankly a little shocked by Mac's ability to galvanize people to buy overpriced things. How did they manage to cultivate this rabid cult atmosphere?

So you zinged then instead of trying to teach them that being a fan-boy isn't a reasonable thing to be? Yes, I know jerks are jerks, but shouldn't we be trying to teach instead of win?

Yeah, even a person who is posting using a Macbook, who owns an iPod and has an iPad coming in the mail knows that some of those guys can be pretty annoying XD

Having a Mac doesn't make you any better than anyone else, despite what some people think. It's just a nice alternative to the PC some people prefer.

;) Just make sure you don't make the opposite is true. Some PC people can be pretty elitist and douchey too :D People really gotta be nicer.

Do you think they'd be fired for not acting the way they act?

I'd love to be hired at one of those stores just to recommend PCs/laptops to everyone that comes through. Lulz would ensue at the subsequent firing.

know why only trendy hipsters use mac?

because us real tech savvy people know the better operating systems to get shit done on.

i run a web server using a PC, and let me tell you, you couldn't do it HALF as well on a mac. between writing and transferring files to the server, its more than what id ask for from a computer with as much usefulness as an easy bake oven

It's an image thing. Don't you want to stand out and be different? Don't you want to be hip and cool? Then buy apple!

Actually, I give them credit for the ipod/iphone because they really hit the cutting edge there (no, I don't own either), but their line of computers just sucks. Sure, they have some good graphics software, but that doesn't justify it, considering you could get free graphics programs in linux that do a pretty good job, and you can just buy a kickass PC, buy top of the line graphics software, and still come under the apple budget.

Dude. Just don't use the GUI. Go straight into terminal (with one of the better terminal emulators I've used) and it's basically a BSD machine. You know... what "real" server users use. You can install Apache (default), rsync, and ViM (default), and build anything else from source if you need to.

Contrary to popular belief, Macs aren't limited in function. Those who claim such things are just not used to using a Mac. And if they really cared, they'd just set up a highly customized *nix box.

do i LOOK like i can be bothered with that bullshit?
i use lighttpd for a simple website on a server on a regular pc
hell im just out of highschool. and the fact im able to afford a pc and set up a sever with relative ease is a win for me. Not to mention, i make the pages on my laptop running programs that i can work on PC and some ONLY on PC.
when i was trying to help my friend run his server on a mac, that shit was cluncky no matter how you put it, and this was a fairly new mac too.

Im sorry? I guess I wasnt thinking at the time?

I didnt want to get into a debate and ruin the whole time so I verbally stomped his balls and we all moved on. It was just a fun little story man.

You really think you can convince a apple fanboy that they arent worth it? This is a guy thats probably 10,000 into their protduct. He has appleTV for crying out loud. I dont know what that is but it sounds like hulu for 100$ and he swears by it though weve never seen him use it.

That's funny. I personally have an iphone but definitly not a total mac fan. I know at many universities most mac users are arts students whereas most science students use PC. Also not to generalize but what you said in the opening post about mac users thinking they are really smart. Yeah same at my university.

Fail to see how a psych student thinks they are smarter than an engineer. At my school most psych students have a mac, and there is a bit of an ego. But that is not all of them of course.
