Trump wants 'Patriotic Education'.

In austere, starkly divisive remarks, President Trump on Thursday said he would create a commission to promote "patriotic education" and announced the creation of a grant to develop a "pro-American curriculum." The move is largely political — a reaction to a growing push by some academics for schools to teach an American history that better acknowledges slavery and systemic racism.

In the speech, Trump decried what he said was a "twisted web of lies" being taught in U.S. classrooms about systemic racism in America, calling it "a form of child abuse." He reprised themes from a speech he gave in July at Mount Rushmore.

"Teaching this horrible doctrine to our children is a form of child abuse, the truest sense," Trump said. "For many years now, the radicals have mistaken Americans' silence for weakness. They're wrong. There is no more powerful force than a parent's love for their children. And patriotic moms and dads are going to demand that their children are no longer fed hateful lies about this country."
Trump talks a lot about the real education of American history. Yet he's against the 1619 project.

President Trump is weighing in on history, blasting the New York Times Magazine's 1619 Project, which reframes America's history by focusing on the consequences of slavery and contributions of Black Americans, and at the same time announcing the creation of a new "1776 commission" to reinstate "patriotism" in American schools.

At a White House history conference Thursday, he said that the Times had defiled the story of America.

"The left has warped, distorted, and defiled the American story with deceptions, falsehoods, and lies. There is no better example than the New York Times' totally discredited 1619 Project," Mr. Trump said at the event. "This project rewrites American history to teach our children that we were founded on the principle of oppression, not freedom."
So, re-education of a nation's Youth to better indoctrinate them to an ultra right wing cause, check. Pointing fingers at powerless minorities to incense a populous looking for someone to blame besides themselves for all of their woes, check. Propaganda on a minority group to entice the majority against them, check. Patriotic citizens willing to excuse said actions and/or ready to go to war against others for... really just propaganda, check.

Seems like we're ruled by a Despot. Now we just have to see if he's more like Stalin, Pol Pot, or the Big H.

Patriotic education isn't the problem

Pretending your views is the only version of patriotic is the problem. He wants to enforce a certain vision of America onto everyone else, Reagan style. We have words for that

I guess Trump has decided that since Anti-Fascists are evil, he has to be fascist to spite them.

Thanks, Donnie. I've always wanted to live in 1930's Italy.

Now don't go that far.

We don't have proper Italian food, just burgers.

LOL all this is, is the fictional " white only history" he was taught when he was a kid where all nonwhites were erased and white guys took credit for everything everyone else did. Is anyone surprised Trump got his undies in a wad because people actually showed what Columbus himself wrote about what he did? Trump REALLY doesn't like anyone to argue with Trump's alternative facts. I just feel bad for any kids that are going to have to learn this garbage. They are going to be as screwed up as those who were taught Moses was a founding father.

Yes, because we can say anything after Abbot, Dutton and to a lesser extent Howard and Scomo
Because honestly, I don’t think any of them quite compare to this. John Howard - for his sins - could at least comport himself like a statesman even after the utter dick move with the Tampa (Yeah, Pepperidge Farm still fuckin’ remembers John). Abbott was a twat par excellence and I lived in legitimate fear of Constable Potato Face becoming PM. As for Scomo.......I honestly think if he just shut up and stood still he’d fade into the wallpaper.

Where'd you land on Turnbull?

EDIT: And oh Jesus I just remembered this is like the whole “Western Civilisation” course someone wanted at a University or three in Australia.

Turnball= Obama. Didn't want to rock the boat. Energy sector is still a huge problem. Gave water back to the farmers and it's getting to Howard stupid levels where they are going to destroy the basin again. Definitely didnt deal with refugees we still have locked up for 7 years. Definitely relied on consultation but had no follow through. Would have picked him over Shorten still.

Probably correct about getting a referendum on gay marriage but it's so utterly stupid voting on giving people the same rights as others. But then we literally did the same for aboriginal voting which SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GIVEN. It shows you how far we were behind and how far we have come.

Also, what the hell is Albo doing. Talk about a wet blanket with nothing to say or believe in

I think it is a great idea to go back to the kind of history teaching that was done in the early 20th century, that only focused on how great the nation you live in was, is and forever will be. I am sure there will be no problems with an education that only emphasizes the great stuff and continually values martial valor and force of arms over softer values. It is not like this kind of thinking led to two massive wars spanning the entire planet, right?
I mean, that's how Trump has dealt with Corona and just focus on what good the Americans have been doing.
It's clearly had the best result. The most beautiful reults

Yeah, though it seems more like an antagonistic move to divert the next generation away from the kind of PC ideologies and leftist agitators that are so prevalent today and which ideas have so permeated colleges, the media, corporations etc. Ofcourse politicizing education as a reaction to this(espescially in the formative years) is no different than brainwashing by the state. School should be the perfect place to put history into context and teach children critical thinking skills so they can make their own opinions and not be either dependent on revisionist group think or a particular state narrative. Both are wrong but it is probably exemplary of how deeply divided society is when even schools are no longer off-limits.

No results could be more beautiful than this.

The closest thing I had to a leftist professor in college was a pro-capitalism, pro-free market econ professor who thought that companies had to pay for the environmental damage they cause. Purely because *somebody* ends up paying for it, and if the government is cleaning up after these companies, that's an unfair market advantage.

I have zero doubt that he'd be called a radical leftist.

Sadly, that is the reality of it. The disinformation blitz though has the masses convinced that the socialist Antifa mobs are coming to burn their lawns, dress their children in Sari's while twerking and force them to pray to the Black transgender Jesus of their nightmares.

Some of the crap I see/ hear here locally is seriously that bad.
