A year or so ago, I saw a few episodes of this series on youtube, but I have since forgotten its name, and google searches have turned up nothing. Since there seems to be an abundance of people from the UK here, my hope is that the following description will jog someone's memory and lead them to share the name of the series with me. The show is as follows:

The premise is similar to "Modern Wonders" or "How Things Work", but it aired some time in the 1980's or early 1990's. It featured two men (maybe it was just one?) who claimed extensive experience in the field of special effects. The show covered the history and basic function of many pieces of then-common technology, including elevators, personal computers, and VHS tapes. The episodes included practical demonstrations of the scientific concepts behind the featured technology, and was intercut with animated segments that looked like they were drawn on doodle paper in very little time. I remember that the "Personal Computers" episode ended with a fire-breathing robot built out of trashed pc monitors, and the "Elevators" episode ended with the host standing in an elevator that appeared to be rocketing into the sky (but was obviously just dangling from an off-camera crane). The theme song was some swanky tune played on the saxophone.

Anyone know what show I'm talking about?

Edit: Resolved. It was "The Secret Life of Machines".

No idea.
Do you know if the guys have done any work recently? Do you know if this show was on BBC, ITV, 4 or 5? Sometimes just knowing the channel can jog the memory.

I'm afraid that I couldn't say. My only exposure to it was from a few episodes posted on Youtube a while back. For all I know, they might still be there, but it was too long ago for them to show up in my viewing history. I am American, and as far as I know, the show was never broadcast over here. It was a good mixture of humor and education. I'd love to re-watch it, or see more episodes.
