I just want to see an entire NBA stadium waving Hong Kong signs, just to see if the entire stadium gets kicked out.
I too want to see more of this. I don't think voting with your wallet is going to work when the wallet you are voting against is as big as China's. I think we should use China's hatred of free speech to our advantage. We can hijack their fear of letting their citizens be exposed to any speech or information that the Communist Party considers to be dangerous to their continued rule to let us vote with their wallet. I don't begrudge companies who are willing to do business with China, but I do begrudge companies who are willing to curtail our freedom of speech in order to do so. I love the idea that we can use our freedom of speech to seriously stand up to those who don't value it in a very tangible way. I hope Mei becomes enough of a symbol of the Hong Kong protests to make China's government afraid enough to take action against Blizzard. The NBA is already hurting as its relationship with China deteriorates. We may not be able to bring down China, but we can certainly make companies think twice before trying to sell out our rights to them.
It might essentially force companies to develop two types of product, one that's aimed at China and one that's aimed at... notChina. Then they'll realize that it's cost prohibitive to adhere to China's ridiculous censorship laws.

The idea of all the spectators in a stadium waving "Free Hong Kong" banners during major sporting events in order to deny the company business in China is a great one. Reveal to the world what China is becoming, just a bigger North Korea.

We should also have winnie the pooh plushies all over the stadium. The basketball players should just start covering one of their eyes since that symbolizes the Hong Kong protests.

Yikes got my first warning ever. I guess I better bow out of this topic before I allow myself to get worked up enough to cross the line again if I haven't already. I knew it was pointless to engage and to do so would only hurt myself. Add this thread to the list of times I regretted making a post, which includes just about every single post I have made. I don't regret the shower crabs though.

Yes. Yes to this. Make Winnie the Pooh a massive staple in resisting China's tyranny. I'm going to have to buy a Winnie the Pooh plushy now.

For Halloween, the Hong Kongers should all dress like winnie the pooh and march the streets. I wish Westerners would be this good at assembling protest like them.

This is funny. Now they're pulling Mei merch from the Blizzard store.

But he looks so genial and cuddly, how can he be a genocidal despot?

The comparison originates from this photographed walk with Obama

Short and squat vs tall and lanky is all it was. A simple dumb meme. The Streisand effect is real.

Not seeing the problem there, you're a popular kids character and friends with Obama.

There's nothing to understand. Just some despot getting offended and upset at a kids cartoon character and taking it out on the populous.

I especially like the part where he mocks the expressions of "apolitical" and "leaving politics at the door"

A dig at his former employer, perhaps?

He has a very fragile ego and he is overcompensating by being a despot. In his mind he's probably saying, "Goddammit, I'm not a cuddly bear. I'm a big strong man!"
