There is no page on tvtropes named "They changed it, now it's awesome".

There is of course They Changed It, Now It Sucks! , but the contrast options are only Woolseyism, It's the Same, Now It Sucks!, Franchise Original Sin.

Should there be a "They changed it, now it's awesome" site? Cases where the original work was only okay or even bad, but another version suddenly turned out outright awesome and not only in comparison?

Would you know examples? I haven't played the Witcher series yet, though while I heard great praise for the third game, few have said I should play the franchise from the start.

The Godfather

The original book is ok. It tells a compelling story but the writing is just decent and there are some diversions that don't really help. The novel is a decent character study with an ok plot

The movie adaptation is an all-time classic. The directing and acting, of course, but Coppolla's own reflection of his heritage infusing it added relatable styling and the changes to the plot helped make it flow a lot better. Most famous/infamous maybe removing an entire sub-plot with Sonny Corleone and his mistress whom she seduced because of his large penis, her malformed vagina, and the redemption she had after getting surgery to repair it. I would say removing that mess of a story from the movie certainly helped make it awesome.

Well I've never played the series but my understanding is that plenty of people consider Resident Evil 4's departure from the horror-focus of the earlier titles to action-focus to be an example of this.

Firefly became a cult classic instead of just another Whedon show due to being cancelled, if that counts.
