Twilight Author Bored With Vampires

My main problem with it is that of the poor writing and harmful portrayals of relationships (ie: stalking, obsession) to young women. The whole vampire thing is a little annoying, but not the crux of my dislike for the series. Maybe having worked in a bookstore and dealing with the fanbase when the hype started made me dislike these books more than other subpar books.

As for don't complain, if you can't write something better.... well I have. The thing most people don't know about the publishing world that it isn't an art, but a business. I have received personalized letters from major publishers (which is huge because rejection letters are mere copy-past affairs), telling me how talented of an author that I am but too niche market, and not "economically viable". I was almost picked up by one publisher, and she felt bad for turning me down because they had just picked up a book with similar theme not long ago. All this meaning, I have written things that won't have mass appeal. Everyone is out there looking for the next series to milk and it's hard to break in without connections or that highly marketable idea.
Writing can be a chore, but it's very rewarding. People who think that it's all about being inspired usually don't make it past the first chapter.

I am also bothered when people laud over one popular author, but freely admit that they don't really read.

Well, from what I can tell, the Twilight series seems to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer with bad dialogue, boring characters, excessively weak female characters, and even less threatening vampires. It is, you see, Joss Whedon if he were a sexually repressed teenage Mormon girl.

Therefore, I believe Stephanie Meyer's next project will involve the brooding, mysterious captain of a spaceship and his crew of emotionally needy shipmates, including a good-looking male doctor who stalks the cute, virginal female mechanic incessantly to show that he loves her, even though he can't express it through words.

Let's just all agree it would be much better for the world of literature if she simply got bored of writing.

What would she know about vampires? It's not as if she's written anything about them.

/what everyone else has been saying.

..Dear god. Don't give it idea's, Kavonde. Don't give it idea's!

Though I swear, if she touches Zombies, Werewolves, some not-entirely-fucked-up version of Vampires, or sexually frustrated Wizards, I will not be responsible for the bomb torch flying towards the woodworks..

Look, there is a pretty big distinction between "vampires" and "gay, emo, sparkly people, who sometimes drink blood." However, I do get the point you're trying to make. But I didn't say her books weren't shitacular, I said her portrayal of vampires does them no honor.
Thanks for clarifying. I shall get off this boat at once.

Pip pip, cherio!
Sorry, I'm just pissed at the moment.
Oh no, I'm pissed too. For different reasons =p

People like you, no offense, are the people that make me want to move away from the Twilight hate-dom. I'm all for diversity in fantasy creatures and for various creative alterations done by the authors - re-reading Dracula or Lord of The Rings whenever you touch any fantasy or vaguely vampire-related book is the last thing I want to do... Authors should be creative, they should not let some idiotic pre-made archetypes stick so hard.

Now simply offensively bad writing, it's a good reason to hate Twilight for. It's fanbase, too. Not because they like soppy romance novels - it's simply not most guys' thing. But because they're declaring such shitty work of fiction as one of the best books ever. Probably due to the lack of experience when it comes to real literature, but still. Urgh. Ignorance.

Not meaning to offend, and stuff.
None taken.

I just don't like seeing the vampire, one of the most awesome creatures ever created, turned into something completely annoying. It would be like seeing your favorite video game character turn up in a game wearing a tutu and prancing around screen like a ballerina.

How can she be bored of vampires? There has yet to be any vampires in Twilight. Just calling sparky teens vampires does not make them vampires. Shakespear would certainly agree with me.

Jesus back-fliping christ. what irony... on one end my happy ms.meyer's wants to leave the twilight universe (hopefully for good) but now i have 2 worry about her shitting on anything else i like. i could always plead the the vamps in twilight are gothic-pixies but if she decides 2 write about something awesome...like ninjas?

I'm not that bothered really, considering I never tried the series.
It didn't sound like my sort of thing.

However, a few of my friends really don't like Twilight.
This news entertained them immensely when I sent it to them.

I actually cant see why they hated it so much in the first place though.
I know for a fact a few of them never bothered to see it.
Considering one of them is my brother, I'd probably know if he had, at least.
Probably because it's meta to like it.
But then it's also meta to hate it.
Huh...

Whatever.
I just hope whatever she moves onto doesn't cause the same reaction.
That would be somewhat annoying.

Ive always said to my ex-twilight fan sister that the books were love stories that just happened to have "vampires" in them rather than being a vampire story.

I agree that her interpretation of vampires were nothing near most examples and i am really annoyed that a whole generation is gonna grow up thinking this is how vampires and werewolves really are.

in reply to her self pitying line of "this is all i can do" well yeah it is because look at her book The Host which even twilight fans hated and rewriting the 1st book from Edward's view is just lazy, thats like a harry potter book from dumbeldores pov, interesting to fans but completely unnecessary. Also that bree tanner book is based on a girl with only 2 lines in the main series according to my sister so i dont even get that at all.

That was my understanding as well, that she has never written about vampires. Do you think she knows she doesn't write about vampires?

"She doesn't want to be typecast as that author that created a massively popular series about bloodsuckers that can passionately kiss."

Too bad sweet cheeks, you're in the shit now! hahaha

So, she's getting bored with vampires? I'm getting bored with all of the fans and haters personally. I just don't care. It's poorly written fiction with poorly designed characters. Nothing that hasn't been done before. Don't worry people, the next generation of teenage girls will soon have a new obsession once Twilight has faded from the general public's memory and you'll have something new to complain about. In truth the only people that are going to remember anything about the Twilight books/movies are those who enjoyed them for whatever reason they had. Even if those reasons aren't good ones.
