My main problem with it is that of the poor writing and harmful portrayals of relationships (ie: stalking, obsession) to young women. The whole vampire thing is a little annoying, but not the crux of my dislike for the series. Maybe having worked in a bookstore and dealing with the fanbase when the hype started made me dislike these books more than other subpar books.
As for don't complain, if you can't write something better.... well I have. The thing most people don't know about the publishing world that it isn't an art, but a business. I have received personalized letters from major publishers (which is huge because rejection letters are mere copy-past affairs), telling me how talented of an author that I am but too niche market, and not "economically viable". I was almost picked up by one publisher, and she felt bad for turning me down because they had just picked up a book with similar theme not long ago. All this meaning, I have written things that won't have mass appeal. Everyone is out there looking for the next series to milk and it's hard to break in without connections or that highly marketable idea.
Writing can be a chore, but it's very rewarding. People who think that it's all about being inspired usually don't make it past the first chapter.
I am also bothered when people laud over one popular author, but freely admit that they don't really read.
