I got a good feeling that it will be surpassed by the next Harry Potter film. Whenever that comes out.

Experts predict that New Moon, which again stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, will make nearly $100 million dollars in the USA and Canada over the weekend, one of the biggest opening weekends for a non-summer film. The current record for an opening weekend is The Dark Knight, which made nearly $160 million in July last year.
do you want to know why they will out sell batman
because tweens got money
scratch that
tweens mum and dad have got money

most people who wanted to see batman innitially were either comic fans or big movie buffs who were sadly strapped for cash due to that whole "recession" thing, something that wasnt helped by 2008 being a damned good year for cinema / comics what with ironman and the hulk
and by the time that the gossip had spread about batman being one of the best films in a long long time it was to late to set a record...

well thats my theory...

p.s. since no one else is going to see this movie unless they want to be shunned I guess we all have a bit more cash, so I expect big donations when we do the whip-round to buy a shotgun to kill the cast of twilight!
maybe this time we can get some ammo too!

Whatever.

Michael Bay's success hurts a lot more than this does. At least Twilight isn't openly reinforcing negative racial, societal and cultural stereotypes the way Bay's movies are. Or maybe it is, but it's not as in-your-face about it.
Uh...Really? How about the stereotype of the clingy, obsessed, psychotic, dumb, would be crazy-ass girlfriend? This is the kind of film that portrays women as vapid, dumb shells without understanding nor care of the world, or the bigger picture (family, friends, other more worldly things) beyond their most egotistical drives, leaving them in the position to be "cared" for by a stronger, more competent male figure. Fuck that shit.

Anything that makes women conform to the lowest common denominator I'm against. We guys get a hard time as it is, the last thing we need is to be "carrying" women in real life.

Again, fuck that shit.

Why, oh why, oh why.
Its times like these I dislike being female, with all the fan girls running around sporting "Team Edward" tops. It makes me want to cry.
The only reason i'm going to watch this movie is to see if its as crap as the first one. Even though it'll be another 2 hours of my life i'll never get back. Not at the cinema though mind, i'm not giving them my hard earned money, that'll go against every moral fibre in my body.

Noooo it can't beat The Dark Knight!

It doesn't help that my fellow female students are shamelessly fawning over it... I mean, the books were tolerable, but the movies...it's gone past over-hypedness.

I wouldn't even bother, it's probably just the same crap with a bigger budget, save your sanity and avoid it. That's just my advice.

I didn't say Twilight was good, or excused for its horribleness. But I could come up with a lot worse portrayals/stereotypes in the Transformers movie.

I'm not saying you are wrong about Michael bay, I'm just disagreeing with you about the fact that the Twilight franchise is, at the very least least, equally wrong in terms of gender fuckups and the misrepresentations it perpetrates.

This sums up my feelings about it.
And this guy.

Luckily my school is quite small, and the Twilight craze seems to have passed, so I don't need to constantly say that the books are shit and I did read them.

I also won't have to put up with the movie for a few months, because it's the time of year where we don't even get big screen films (The outdoor cinema only opens during the dry season- Autumn/Winter), so it's out of mind until the a few weeks after the DVD release when it arrives at the video store.

A friend and I did watch the original Twilight movie. Best comedy of the year, for serious.

The ONLY reason the original made 350 some million is that no one knew how terrible the movie was when it first came out, so a lot more people saw it then will see this one. And all the negative press will mean that even people that saw and sorta liked the first one won't bother seeing the sequel.

I bet this one makes 150 total, 3 makes 100 and 4 makes less than 50
I think you are going to be sorely wrong on this one. Every bloody fangirl will go and see this multiple times, like they did with the last one. Then, there'll be the people who saw the first movie and decided to read the books, who will then have to see how the two compare. There's be people who just liked the first movie and want to see the second. It's a date/group/hope to hook up with someone type of movie.

I think it'll do just as well, if not better than the first movie.

Why do bad movies have to make so much money?
Well, to be fair, this one fills a niche that ridiculously little else does, as explained in this interesting article [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/moviebob/6797-Twilight-of-the-She-Geeks] by Moviebob.
I read that article, which does make a good point. His review also makes a good point when he says that the movie is bad. The way I see it, the Twilight seres is like the Wii if the Wii didn't have all the amazing first party games on it: full of promise, but bad execution. I wouldn't be so depressed if the books/movies were actually good, but they aren't, so all those girl geeks are only opening the doors for more shallow appeals for their money.
