Sooooooo wait, this is a game for social skills training?

Couldn't that have some use outside of the army as well? There are plenty of people out there who suffer from a lack of social skills (for example, those who have Asperger Syndrome/Autism) who could benefit greatly from such technology!

Won't work unless they can make it like the holodeck on Star Trek... Videogames do not train you in any way to do anything in real life.
That would be so cool though, Always wanted a holodeck. If they could develop something like thta its possinle usefulness would be immense

Chance peaceful behavior will be rewarded: Zero.

Let's get this straight. Our intention is to install a government that will listen to us no matter what the "citizens" of that country want. If they disagree with us, we have no interest whatsoever in responding rationally. If they do not see us and disarm themselves and drop to their knees in worship, listen to everything we say and show no signs of independence, they're going to be murdered.

I am entertained any time they claim to simulate "humans" in any form though, it vividly highlights how abstract and unrealistic our societies view of "humans" are.
thank goodness somone who speaks the truth!!!!

but i mean call me skeptical but do you have any evidence? you know just to back up your truth there?

there is litraly no intention to do any of that stuff, you really think the public of any of the involved nations would stand for that? we (the public) have a lot more power in the goings on of govermants than you think

in fact the main reason america left veitnam is not because they were suistaining heavy casulties but because of a distinct lack of public support....the same reason the americans took back america from the bitish....had the genral american public supported the british we would have crushed the revouloution

I was always under the impression that they improved reading to a small degree, but okay. :)

Lately it seems everyone is trying to use video games to improve something else. First it was the Nintendo thing a few days ago and now this. On the positive side, maybe they'll find out who is truly crazy and who isn't when the brainwaves go bonkers during one of those 'situations'.
It's been proven, people who play video games statistically are better problem solvers, smarter, and relax more in high pressure situations. They use simulations all the time to put a soldier or pilot in a stressful circumstance. All a simulation ends up being is a video game. I mean simulation not a real life exercise. I think that using video games to train people for certain things is ok. However, human interaction should not be simulated, in events like this there is nothing better than human interaction. DO NOT SIMULATE THIS. IT WILL NOT HELP.

Did anyone else read the title as 'body reading RocketPropelledGrenade'?
I mean it doesn't make total sense but I thought there might of been some person seeking rocket
Yes, yes I did. It left me scratching my head until I finally tabbed to the article.

Is this like Judge Dread training? Asking regular soldiers to be judge jury and executioners, but not actually using violence?

Regular soldiers are grunts, pawns, dispensable meat bags. Giving them more responsibilities is asking for trouble I think.

We need specialized units for this kind of specialized activity. Asking gamers to make a simulation for interacting w/ people is a no win situation. Gamers have little interaction w/ real people, so the stereotype says, why ask them for help with this??

To bad we didn't think of these problems before we invaded.
Very rarely would it ever be a "grunt" in this circumstance. Like you said most would not be capable of doing it properly. It's almost always an officer who does this, with orders from up top. Very rarely will a grunt be asked to talk to someone about important matters.

As for the Gamers' human interaction, the simple fact that you base your judgment of a group by picking a stereotype is beyond me. And frankly not worth anymore of my time trying to explain why this concept is bad.

Yeah, the internet is great, but that doesn't mean we should give the military free reign to develop whatever stupid thing it wants for billions of dollars with absolutely no oversight or questioning, that would be madness.

This looks to be probably one of the dumbest uses for tax dollars I've seen in a long time.
I'm sure that's what people said about the military buying really expensive servers that they'd never use...
Should we not question an organization ever again if they have one huge success?
Question all you'd like, but the money is already allotted. All they need is a company to develop it. It's not like there is anything you can do to stop it, so you might as well find some silver lining in the situation.
I'm not saying I believe I could change it, that would be insane.

I gotta say though, the whole "silver lining" thing doesn't make sense to me, am I supposed to attempt to delude and twist myself into thinking this is a good thing, even though that's not what I think, just because it's inevitable? No thanks, I choose the red pill.

Great, event he US Army wants to infuse their training shooters with 'RPG' elements. This really needs to stop and starting going back the the traditional genres that are known and loved.
