U2 Wants To Be In a Videogame

Rock Band [http://www.u2.com/]-style videogame but only if it can provide an accurate portrayal of the group, rather than turning it into a "caricature."

U2 was reportedly in talks with Harmonix [http://www.harmonixmusic.com/] last year about appearing in the Rock Band series but eventually pulled out over the "compromises" required by the game. The band is still enthusiastic about the genre, however, and Clayton said that advances in technology could yet lead to the group's videogame debut.

"We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted," Clayton said in an interview with USA Today [http://blogs.usatoday.com/entertainment/2009/10/u2-we-definitely-would-like-to-be-in-rock-band.html]. "That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out."

"What The Beatles [http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/] have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation," he added. "We didn't want to be caricatured."

Fortunately for all involved, Clayton chose not to comment on whether he found the inclusion of Kurt Cobain in 360° Tour [http://gh5.guitarhero.com/], which is scheduled to run until late 2010 and will take the band across Europe, North America and South America.

"Hey guys. We went to be popular too..." Ugh, please. U2 totally gives me heartburn, so I definitely wouldn't want them in my Rock Band game.

So they have a big enough ego that they think they deserve their own game(or at least avatars in a game)? Heh, well if they think ppl play these games for their representation of characters I think they are mistaken. Its only the song list.

I like them, but I'd rather see an R.E.M. or Gorillaz as video game characters.

"but only if it can provide an accurate portrayal of the group."

Hows about a game depicting them making awesome music in the 80's then selling out to commercialism, running out of ideas whilst self-indulging in drilling pro-God and anti-poverty messages through their concerts. ^^

In all seriousness I guess every other band has done it so why not them? They've run out of repackaging 'best of' albums so they're looking for a new way of milking more money.

This doesn't go to show they have any respect for videogames. In fact, for some reason Id have thought U2 to be the kind of people to be anti-videogames for some reason.

Oh God, you've just depicted my number one secret videogame dream - R.E.M.: Rock Band. I so want that to be created someday.

It's funny that they consider themselves to be as influential and popular as the Beatles to a point where they feel that they deserve their own video game.

I think of a child complaining to his mother to get him the hot new toy that the cool kids in kindergarten all have. "Well the Beatles have one! Even Aerosmith and Metallica have one! Why can't we?"

There are a great many bands I'd rather see a game go to than U2,(like say, the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Those guys are so far up their own asses... they'd probably sell the guitar with douchey glasses that make the world appear as though you're its only hope when you wear them.

I am generally against one band games for many reasons, but if there is one band I can think of that should not get their own exclusive game under any circumstances, its U2.
I do like them as a band and wouldn't mind playing some of their songs in a Rock Band game, but their songs are not varied enough to make playing through 40 of their songs sound anything more than dreary. Also, it is rather obvious that there is a lot of hate for U2, and while I may be able to convince my friends to play one or two songs of theirs, I highly doubt I could convince most of them to play an entire game's worth.
On the other hand, if they appeared in a Rock Band game as playable avatars a la Iggy Pop in Lego Rock Band, or any of the other people to appear in the Guitar Hero games, I would not mind it at all.

U2 wants the same treatment The Beatles got...while not actually being The Beatles...

Beg Bono, BEG I TELL YOU!!! *ahem* But it's kinda arrogant for them to compare themselves with The Beatles. But then again, it's U2, did we expect anything else?
