Well, I certainly do look forward to these games more then I do Halo, no denying that. I don't know if it will ever truly reach that particular level of popularity, though. I'm not sure AC has the same mass appeal as something like GTA.
Sorry, but I had to highlight the unintended pun in what you just said.

I would pay the full price of an Assassins Creed 3. I would not do so for GTA V. (Unless I won the lottery or something) But to say that the whole Franchise will be as big... Meh, I'm not sure.

Still, the games are good and TBH, Assassins Creed 2 was an improvement over 1 (IMHO). GTA IV was NOT an improvement over San Andreas.

Edit: Hey, above poster. Where did your Avatar come from? Looks somewhat familiar.

Ugh. Franchises are ugly creatures. I understand why developers and publishers like them, because they sell much better. But, I'm personally not a fan. They seem inspired less out of a desire to create a sustained, engaging narrative, and more about trying to milk the shit out of brand name.

I'd much prefer it if Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed 3 already and stopped piss-farting around.

These days I find it quite irritating that all the big franchises can't just be videogames. They have to be books, comics, ARGs, short movies. It all oozes slimy marketing.

No. No you are not. Ugh, it's been forever since I've seen that show.

OT: No, it won't. A prerequisite to that level of popularity is putting guns in your game, plain and simple. Not that it increases the quality of a game, but that seems to be what the masses crave.

pretty bold statement...but I like it, GTA needs a nice kick in the arse once while to improve itself

Indeedie - I enjoy Assassin's Creed myself, but its not as flexible a format as GTA really - once the Desmond story arc is over, I can't realistically see how they plan to develop more stories around this premise - I mean, if they just say its "Resmond" and his historical ancestors, what's the point?

GTA, on the other hand, isn't tied to individual main characters, or places; hell, if we accept RDR as a 'spiritual GTA' game, then its not even tied to the modern era.

But regardless, the Ubisoft management are morons, and will likely ruin the great progress Assassin's Creed 2 made by spinning out sequel after sequel instead of just the final episode.

What is up with the misleading titles today? The title sounds like the next AC world will be as big as GTA

Must admit I really like the assassins creed franchise so i'd like to think it should get the popularity it deserves. Thing is, I thought it already did really well.

Though I get peoples complaints about DRM, luckily as an xbox user I never had to deal with what sounded horrible the way you guys describe it.

He didn't consider that GTA4 had some really good DLC to go along with it, whereas AC2 does not. People bought GTA4 when they heard the DLC (not even sure if the GTA4 disc was required because I have the PC version anyway) was as good as it was thinking that they wanted to finally give it a shot. AC2, doesn't have that appeal. Their DLC for this game was marginal at best from what I read. The only way this game will hit 15 million (as Andy said, damn near doubling their sales) this late is if... I dunno what, but it won't happen.

I can see Asassin's Creed being as big as GTA and Halo as a franchise but not very soon. Maybe after Assassin's Creed 3 but only time will tell. I prefer Assassin's Creed over GTA myself.

Not if they keep *****-slapping their fanbase with horrid DRM and ruining franchises. I'm looking at you, Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia!

Anyway, I doubt this. I would guess Ubisoft will be dead before Assassin's Creed becomes as big as GTA or Halo.

Ubisoft are saying quite alot recently.

Somehow i doubt it, i think many more people play GTA than Assassins Creed.

the new Assassin's Creed would have to a fucking miracle to leap past GTA

Oh Ubisoft...why do you need to be as popular as GTA? You should really focus on being as popular as Assassins Creed. Stop trying to be something you are not.

OT: I don't really know how popular AC will become but I doubt it'll be as big as GTA
