Wait, how exactly does this system stop piracy?
It won't in the long run.
And how does this stop it in the short run? Am I missing something?
presumeably, the pirates won't have a registered game and won't be able to connect to the website to keep their game playing.

that's all assuming it isn't cracked before it launches on the PC, or soon afterwards, which it probably will be.

It won't work at all, its just some firm saying that they can stop piracy, even though they can't, so they get paid

The game won't have to be registered because any pirate with half a mind would take everything off before they put it onto a torrent.

I'm sure there was a time when electricity was thought impossible.
and a time dragons were thought to be real.

any installed file is a number of save 1's and 0's, so it will always* be possible to edit them, and always be possible to remove certain checks

**baring a new, draconian OS, but that is a very, very, dark future.

Nope. Still no way I'm forking over cash for that piece of crap DRM. As per the Ars piece: if the connection stutters then the game pauses and then continues.
Yes, and why on earth would I accept stuttering in my games? That's DRM directly impacting performance and severely making it worse.
And that's not even going into the details of why this is wrong.

So no buy here. Not for AC2, not for any game before this madness is buried in Hell where it belongs. Seriously Ubi, you make EA look like the saviours of PC gaming. That's quite a feat.

Too..... much...... text..... write a user article, or use spoilers [*spoiler][/spoiler*] (omit the *)
Considering everything in the post was directly relevant and not just an artifact of quote chaining, and enclosing it into spoiler tags both requires more input on behalf of any would be readers and does nothing to alleviate the length for the segment of the forum-goers who weren't going to read it anyways (like say... you, as you clearly indicate via this pointless non-response), what the hell would be the point of that? It's not like I embedded a slew of images and bogged down your page load times.

And I'm well aware of how to use spoiler tags - thank you oh so much for that patronizing response that amounted to tl;dr. You must really be proud of yourself right now.

Sooooo this whole DRM thing is going to continue to get out of control. Seriously, I think the execs that come up with this stuff deliberately do this to challenge the piracy ppl that put these games up on torrents and other download services. It no longer has anything to do with protecting their products. The developers are challenging the pirates in an ever growing game of who can get their hand higher on the baseball bat.
This is pointless, DRM is completely useless. Anyone can find cracked, pirated copies of any, I repeat ANY, program, game or whatever with out consequence.

This is just not going to work, more people will be turning away from the PC version. Ubisoft has become more and more paranoid with their consumers.

Ok, that was uncalled for, I was only trying to be helpful

Hey everyone, Ubisoft does in fact have a corporate contact - in fact several - that can be communicated with. I myself called their corporate office about the Assassin's Creed 2 postponement, little realizing that the reason they might have postponed it was to break the game. They were very polite and understanding but couldn't give me more info, and while that might be the case for you guys as well, I urge you all to call them or e-mail their public relations managers for your respective countries and complain.

http://ubisoftgroup.com/index.php?p=69&art_id= is the URL. Additionally, while I do support telling Ubisoft how upset you are, I urge you all to be civil in communication with them so we do not wind up justifying their clearly low opinions of us as PC gamers. Tell them what you think and state that you want your complaint noted and you won't be purchasing any further Ubisoft games until the DRM is removed, but be polite about it too so they feel bad :p

This guy pretty much hit the nail on the head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6J9z-gBUr4

OT: For those who didn't watch the video, times like this make me glad I am not a PC gamer. I played AC2 on PS3 but have no intention of playing/dealing with the PC version or the DLC that is going to come out. Sad thing is that really this will do more harm then good, and piracy is never going to end.

Dearest Ubisoft,
I did not buy Assassin's Creed 2 on the consoles because I was waiting for the PC port. I am now not buying it period. The following message will display my frustration as clearly as I can make it:

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

That is all.

Is it illegal to buy the game, then use a pirated and cracked version to play and get around this DRM policy? Thats what my first thought was because I am notmissing AC2 any longer than i have to.

Edit- Im in england btw
