Ubisoft Considering Pirate-Themed Assassin's Creed IV Spin-Off

The naval battles of Assassin's Creed IV were so well-received that Ubisoft may consider building a game around them.

In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag you play as an assassin who is also a pirate. Or maybe a pirate who happens to be an assassin. Or maybe you're just an assassin. Whatever. One of the game's most well-received features was naval battles between pirate ships. It was so well-received that Ubisoft has just sent out a survey to fans, asking them to consider the possibility of a non-Assassin's Creed-branded pirate game.

"In such a game," asked Ubisoft, "what would be the most important elements among these below?" Fans taking the survey could rate how important features such as a customizable pirate character, ship, and hideout, a deeper economy, and additional activities at sea or on land, would be to the game.

It also asks survey subjects if they would like to "sail and fight with my friends" or "sail and fight with other players," suggesting that the game could end up becoming some kind of multiplayer pirate-sailing naval combat MMO.

Other questions on the survey include how important having a new "modern day hero" (IE: Desmond) would be for a future installment in the series, and whether or not tablet/smartphone integration is a "must-have" feature for a potential future game.

Did you get the survey? If so, what did you say were the most important things for a future Assassin's Creed game? I think that Desmond definitely has to go, it was a kind of cool concept in the first game, but he's long since become irrelevant.

Isn't that like making a Ninja-Themed Ninja Gaiden spin-off? Or a Soldier-Themed Call of Duty spin-off?

Anyways, it would be great if they ditch the AC name and go full new IP so they can finally do something different for a change.

People need to start bombarding ubisoft with suggestions to play Sid Meier's Pirates and go from there.

Yes, please. Drop the whole "assassin" thing, the immersion breaking framing plot and the cluttered story and just give us an open world pirate game. That would be just swell! What would be better is if it were a SPACE Pirate game, but that's just me thinking about Utopias again...

Oh, you mean that game Patrice Desilets was fired for? What a bag of dicks you are, Ubisoft.

In my ideal world, the dev team behind Black Flag would just license AEG's 7th Sea and have at. And there's definitely no need for the Assassin/Templar stuff, or the modern day framing. Just give me buckles to swash and booty to pillage and I'm thrilled.

Yes please. A 21st century Sid Meier's Pirates! game, but without any of the shit that makes 21st century games suck.

So basically it could be Blood Dragon for AC4.

I approve of this prospect.

I thought that was 1666 about the Great Plague?
From the rumours I've gathered that it would be a bit similar to ACIV and a possible competition. Given that I can no longer find any sources to back that up, I may be wrong.

I must be missing something, when did he ever start working on AC4? Because this announcement has nothing to do with that 1666 and he wasn't fired due to it being too similar and possible competition for AC. If that was the case why would they even think of making Watchdogs.

OT:Make it sure, but please keep moving through history with the AC games. I'm happy that Black Flag has given inspiration for a different game, but you've come too far to start focusing on one aspect again (Remember Revelations? That game nearly killed Ezio and the time period completely).

Somthing like "Sid Meier's Pirates".

Isn't AC 4 not more a pitate game then an AC game?

In AC 3 the Naval battle were well received.
By me as well, but they alway's felt out of place.

Ubisoft saw this and adapted acordingly, although now the assasins vs. templars felt out of place to me.

This could be interesting, but i do hope they keep some distance between the IPs.

Oh god. My dreams of someone who isn't related to Zenimax making a new game like the old xbox pirates of the Caribbean may come true, and it's fucking ubisoft.

Why don't they simply call it Sid Meier's Pirates and call it a day*, instead of tying to a pretty convoluted series.

[small]*I know it's impossible for Ubi to use the Sid Meier's name, I was just saying they should start a new series (gasp! a new IP) about the pirate themes.[/small]

Would they start off this series with "Black Flag 2" and still have it set in the same alternate history?
For some reason I hope they do (Black Flag is a decent name for a pirate series after all).

Wasn't this the exact same reason as to why they made AssCreed 4? Because the only thing people liked from 3 was the naval warfare?

Wait, wasn't IV a pirate themed assassin's creed spin-off?

Also why does there need to be a spin-off? Just make a pirate game using the mechanics from IV, and completely remove any relation to the core series.

Hell, they could try working with Disney to make a proper Pirates of the Carribean game.

I wish they had just called this game "Black Flag", and not Assassins creed from the beginning. The future shait was so out of place and fun-ruining that they should have just dropped it all.

Also, every assassin you meet is shit compared to Kenway, none of them can handle themselves and they all rely on you to do their shit. And since Kenway is not a trained assassin it feels like anyone could become a better assassin than the people who are in the creed. It kinda destroys the creed's image.
