Assassin's Creed without the Assassin's Creed storyline would be quite fun, yes.Phrozenflame500 said:Isn't that like making a Ninja-Themed Ninja Gaiden spin-off? Or a Soldier-Themed Call of Duty spin-off?Steven Bogos said:Ubisoft Considering Pirate-Themed Assassin's Creed IV Spin-Off
Anyways, it would be great if they ditch the AC name and go full new IP so they can finally do something different for a change.
Sid Meier's Pirates, Fun game in its time for sure.(c64 and win)trty00 said:Absolutely 100% this. Sid Meier's Pirates is one of my favorite games of all time, but if it could perhaps get a modern touch up with all kinds of new features and an imporved visual design, I'd be all for it.karloss01 said:People need to start bombarding ubisoft with suggestions to play Sid Meier's Pirates and go from there.
As for what to do with the modern-day narrative that has hovered over all the proceedings, I think Assassin's Creed 4 came the closest to getting it right. It's not that it has to go away completely, but I feel it's a lot better pushed to the side, and I found the new first-person perspective with a silent protagonist to be suprisingly immersive.
Personally, I actually think there's a lot of comedic ground that could be covered with it. If you take the time to read the documents you find around Abstergo you can come across some pretty funny, and occasionally insightful, meta-commentary on the, sometimes hilariously, profit driven AAA game industry and on conspiracy theories and theorists themselves. I don't know about anyone else, but I found the casual racism expressed when describing the marketability of Ratohnhake:ton as a leading man to be quite funny. I'm not saying it has to go into full-spoof mode, but I think it would benefit greatly from not taking itself so seriously. Perhaps... it could even explore the possibility that the Assassin's and the Templars are equally bloated, antiquated, and petty, organizations? They've held this huge vague conflict over our head for about 6 years and it's been explored in games, comic books, graphic novels, regular novels, animation, films, and... it's gone precisely FUCKING NOWHERE in that entire time. You'd think at some point, roughly during the time spanning from the dominance of the mighty Ottoman Empire and the Turks all the way into the near future, someone would go: 'wait, what the hell are we actually doing again?' Once again, I'll say that Assassin's Creed 4 handled an aspect of the series, in this case the huge conflict between these two parties, the best because of Edward Kenway's 'fuck you, got mine' attitude and his blatant disregard for the both of them for a vast majority of the game. To me, that's damn cool. And, even though he does eventually join the Assassin's, he comes into it naturally. He hits rock bottom, and actually discovers the folly of his ways. He's doesn't just jump head first into being a pawn for the squabble between these two forces.
Seriously, Ubisoft, seriously. 'Defiance' as a mood. EXPLORE IT!
