Ubisoft is working on at least 2 games with female playable leads. Not BG&E2, though. :(

Ya know I'm probably going to regret saying this, but wow it must be ever so nice to be pandered to so much that one can't possibly understand, or care to understand the joy others feel when they get pandered to. Especially when they get pandered to despite the industry having a ton of dislike over the gender of the female protagonist.

And like I said, endlessly complaining over the Status Quo of the woman hating game industry:

Not that I expect anyone who doesn't understand to come back and read this. Regret 2 in that I might be wasting my time trying to explain anything.
Well, like I said, sometimes ya gotta praise people when they do right by you. I really and truly appreciate it when a female protagonist's game is produced. Especially in the light of all the obstacles the developers face in getting sid game produced. I enjoy relating to the character via gender. It's a rare treat. I enjoy the potential of a game whre I see the world with a woman's eyes as opposed to a dude's. There can be a difference.
Personality can be quite different, too.

Yeah it's not BG&E2, but these games look promising. One's built on tried and true game foundations, tjhe other seems like an emotional, meaningful story.

Eh, I don't know if I'd call this particularly daring on their part. It's not like Children of Light is ever going to be mainstream. It's a niche game targeting an audience that's already receptive of female characters (Lightning from Final Fantasy, for example). Liberation HD is a handheld port that's in all likelihood not going to get much advertising, if the HD rerelease of Resident Evil: Revelations is anything to go by. I'm glad they're doing it, god knows I've got more than enough Grizzled White Dude Simulators, but they're still "playing it safe".

If Assassin's Creed V or the next Tom Clancy's: Whatever stars a woman, then I'll give them kudos.
You know, I can't say I have a huge problem with them playing it safe if that's what they need to take a chance on female protagonists. Of course, there's the whole thing where if a game gets no advertisement then it won't do as well, so I hope they do something to let the world know these games are gunna exist.

However, I do agree that there'd be more praise in bigger gambles.

I don't think this qualifies as pandering, it's people making a choice to make this or that character female because they wanted to. Pandering would be if we knew they had female characters just to please the masses.

You raise a valid point.
Think Catered might be a better word?
They may have simply been allowed to make these games, well, recreate and add to one, and create another.

Either way I feel pretty happy about the news of these games.

As long as they're enjoyable games, great. Otherwise what's the point?

I think the statement nowadays is really more-so stable female protagonists (aka, no option of a male alternative). Not sure why alternatives of customize-ability isn't considered valid. !Saints Row 4 allows made with playable female leads!

Mm. While I haven't played any Assasin's Creed game since the first one, I do like that they've made a game in the series with a female character, especially given how the plot of the games work, memories of all your past ancestors means getting to see a badass woman in that, line very likely.

But Child of Light is definitely something I like the looks of and I'll be looking forward to it.

I have no idea as to how another AC looks promising, but Beyond Good And Evil would have been a lot more interesting.

Liberation is something of a side story. She's not one of Desmond's ancestors, rather someone else going through a similar proces for training, or sumfin. I'm not complaining though. :3
I thijnk the trailer the Escapist has showed a weaponized Parasol which will likely become a favorite weapon of mine.

Child of Light definitely looks promising. A game that seems to be made with heart, and passion. That's pretty welcome IMO. I seems pretty unique. A JRPG from the western world. I can't think of too many games that can say they have similar origins.

Sounds like The Answer, in Persona 3: FES when you're playing Aigis, who ascends to Main Protagonist status and gains the previous PC's abilities on top of her being a 7th Generation Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon. She's not crazy, though. And this is assuming you haven't played it already.
Sadly I only played the psp version but I youtubed FES.

i'll have to wait to see the games for myself, as in, when they are coming out/close to coming out, otherwise i'm not gonna hold my breath too much yet. Sure it's nice that there are more "mainstream" (using that word loosely) games using/considering female protagonists as the lead (plenty of gender neutral games, but a full on female lead is much more rare, I admit) but I hope that was because that's what the developers wanted, because otherwise it might just show and take away from the game if they simply are sticking them in there to pander or something.

Dev has to fight tooth and nail for a female protagonist, gamers be like, "OMG devs why don't you like females?!"

Dev opts for a female protagonist with no hassle, gamers be like, "Why should I give a rat's ass?"

Come on guys, make up your mind.

I'm excited for Child of Light, but Liberation was a mess. It was dragging on too long, buggy and the gimmick touch control (which surely won't appear on console version) was frustrating.

The only reason people don't "count" Saints Row 4 (or any game in the series) is ignorance. How that's not considered valid but the Mass Effect games are is a perfect example of people thinking only what they want to think. Same way there's the high likelihood that some feminazi types would blow these titles off because they aren't "major". Last I checked a game was a game whether it's AAA or not.

Some people just won't be satisfied with anything. Fuck 'em.

Good to see, although add me to the list of people who were expecting Beyond Good And Evil 2 and left disappointed (which I suppose we should be used to by now when it comes to BG&E).

Why, Ubisoft, why?!

Umm... who exactly are you referring to?

Who are these people that are refusing to acknowledge that Saint's Row has a customizable protagonist while acknowledging that Mass Effect does so fuck 'em?

You sound like you're angrily swinging at shadows. An impression reinforced by the straight-faced use of "feminazi".

To be honest, i will only celebrate this after seeing if the games are actually good and there is meaning to the lead being female. May sound mean, but i know a whole lot of Stories where the Main-Character could've been a talking squirrel and it wouldnt have changed a damn thing. It would be nice if they actually tried to showcase the possiblities a female lead offers.
I'll have to second ERaptor on this. I think it is good news that games with female leads are being made. However, I'll reserve judgement on this until release because the last thing I want is a female lead character being put in the game just for the sake of it. A good game is a good game and the lead character being male/female is a non-issue to me. It will be judged for its gameplay, meaningful story and all the other usual criteria.

I'm referring to all those on message boards, blogs, Tumblr and such who automatically dismiss any example of progress on the issue of gender representation as just being an exception to the rule. You know...the ones who put an asterisk on already established female leads as if they are insignificant because their not 100% to their "liking".

It's a shame that I'm so sick of the Assassin's Creed brand or else Liberation would look enticing to me. Playing as an African American Female in that time period would be interesting to say the least. But, then again, it is fucking Assassin's Creed, so they would probably find a way to make such an interesting prospect become super boring.
