Ubisoft Says Gamers Are "Starving" for Next-Gen

I'm starving for good games, not useless shiny graphics or facebook integration or touchpad on gamepad or motion controls. If you make some new products instead of endless Assasins Sims, that would be great. Watchdogs was the only recent Ubisoft game that was kinda interesting in concept. But because of recent news about it I think I'll skip this one too.

I'm SO Starving for it that... I think I'm going to skip this new generation entirely.
Pretty much this.

I think I'm going to be riding out another generation on my PC. The console market keeps making itself unnecessarily complex with no appreciable gains to show for it, at least not for me personally.

The upcoming crop of consoles doesn't look to be much better either.

Nintendo is still flailing wildly and alienating me with its gimmicky hardware.

Sony is sacking backwards compatibility, or just compatibility in general while simultaneously developing some sort of social media fetish.

Microsoft is rumored to be gunning for always-online nonsense, and even if that turns out to be false their controllers just never felt right in my hands.

All of it is compounded by the trend of multi-platform releases, which means there will be plenty of games to pick from on the PC even if I skip consoles entirely.

I don't want to be a PC-only gamer, but I feel like that's where the market is currently pushing me. I'm not happy about that.
That backwards compatibility is a giant red flag for me. I don't want to have a ps2, ps3, and ps4 all hooked up to the tv to play various games. Either that or buy the same game over and over. That's why I'm sticking to the pc as well. I can upgrade it as much as I want and those games will still be sitting there on steam and origin for me.

I have a backlog of Ps1, Ps2, Gamecube, Xbox and PC games the size of the Chinese wall.
I don't NEED nor WANT a new generation, i am still trying to catch up to past generations and i am having a BLAST! much more so than i have playing the triple A current games.

No i am so not ready for the next gen consoles i am still loving my 360 and hope to expand to a ps3 once we get a price drop when the PS4 comes out. I think the Wii U is a sign tha most of us don't really care about the next gen like the publishers do. I could give a damn about having social applications on my gaming machine, all i want to do is play good games....

No, Ubisoft. You continue to completely get the opposite message from me.

PC gaming is good!

Ubisoft: PC GAMING IS THE DEVIL! IT PIRATES ALL OUR GAMEZ

I don't want to have to pay lots of money for new hardware.

Ubisoft: BRING ONZ THE NEEW CONZOLES!

I don't care about graphics!

Ubisoft: LOOK AT ALLL OUR SHINEEEY GRAPHICS!

That's it, you've annoyed me far too much. I'm done buying your games.

Ubisoft: RAYMAN ORIGINS GETS A SEQUEL! WATCH-DOUGZ!

Okay, fine, maybe I'll get Legends... It's a compelling argument for the Wii-U...-

Ubisoft: RAYMAN LEGENDZ FOR EVERYTHING!

Why do I even ****ing try at this point?

Ubisoft: SOOOO MANY PRE-ORDRE BONUZEZS!
Preaching to the choir. I've been complaining about the fact I have to have a digital store front from every publisher running on my PC for the last two to three years, and steam for even longer. Not to mention blizzard wants always online for every game they make.
*gives a huge hug* I've been bitching about them for the last two to three years too buddy! It's so nice to actually find people who can tell that Ubisoft is a but of pretentious overpaid assholes who dominate the talented people under their foot! AND SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T BUY INTO BLIZZARD'S SHIT TOO!

I knew I was right when I said I liked the Escapist...

Sure, we're hungry for it. But this feels like Current gen 2.0.

What's your point Ubi?

I'm not hungry for a next generation specifically, I'm hungry for the resulting publisher arms race that will result as they over-develop their games to push system specs to the limit. Time to cull the herd.
Now that is a plus side to look forward to, maybe some of these CEOS that never play their own shit will get the AXE too.

OT:

If by hungry he means could give a shit less then yes we are.

If by huge growth he means biggest crash since the Dreamcast, then yes it will...

People LIKE the current systems and we can not afford to make the games for the current gen.... Why add new hardware to the mix and kill the market?

And this is why I am moving to PC..... That and Start Citizen.

Are you only just realising this Ubisoft? Christ, we've been held back by ancient technology for 4 years or more now. We've been ready for that long and instead we're forced to skip a generation. Compounding this frustration, is the lack of PC development any more, as you and your other publishers only make console games which are then ported across. So even the PC with over 20x the graphics and processing power of all current-gen consoles *combined* is forced to play shitty, DX9 era games because that's all you frikkin' release.

Welcome to 2009 Ubisoft.

You can never keep people happy...

The console crowd say that they're happy with the things they way they are, and that we should be focusing on reducing develeopment costs.

But then the glorious PC gaming master race are like "No! The filthy consoles are holding us back!", and therefore they want shinier graphics and everything to be more expensive, just so they can justify their OTT gaming rigs.

Honestly I'm a middle man. Sure it'd be nice to have increasing levels of graphical fidelity, but it's hardly essential at this point. I feel we've reached a more than adequate level of graphics, and that we should be trying to craft better gaming experiences. Although, the increased RAM for better enemy AI and npcs on screen wouldn't hurt.

so we're hungry for a bunch of rushed games on a new system that will look marginally better than the games now finally optimized for the last generation, where companies can try to squeeze $60 plus a billion microtransactions per game and then advertise the same games via us publishing minor feats on social media while ignoring the gamers who actually want new games (as in new content or playstyles) for yearly immature grey shooter iteration #1000 that must sell 5 million copies at $60 to pay for the advertising or it isn't worth it because it won't pad the CEOs pockets enough, all the while not being able to play anything from the previous generation.

no thanks.

Yup, starving to spend money I don't have on a console that will cost too much at launch for games that are still shit (but damn, is it good looking shit). I'll stick to PC and the smaller-scale titles of good single player games that are always being released (and at a much lower price point). Maybe I'll buy a PS4 a couple of years after it launches and I can consider its library, but starving? Hardly.

New console makes me go meh. I mean I am unsure if it will be worth if game wise as I seem to have fallen out of the target market. The indie studios are giving me more games that AAA and this disturbs me. More power is a fun thing but currently the most I can see myself buying is a pre-owned ps3 for cheap.

All I want is a new rpg that can match Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines

Well i'd hazard a guess that Ubisoft is pretty much about as wrong as a guy trying to push his dick into an electrical socket because someone told him it would be a 'Buzz'.

And quite frankly when i hear the words "social connectivity" applied to gaming i just start twitching and projectile vomiting. You know what i am hungry for Ubisoft? Games that dont try to be a social experience, games that dont try to monetize everything i do, games that in fact dont try to be anything except fucking games!

New games is all I need. I don't particularly see the pressing need for MOAR HD TEXTURZ and super-realistic gewgaws or for the unavoidable crop of new gimmicky control or gameplay systems that supposed visionaries are going to throw our way, touting it as "revolutionary".

I'm sending a cautious leer in David Cage and Peter Molyneux's direction...

Nope. Not starving at all. In fact, I'm about ready to hang up my hat on consoles. They aren't going anywhere worth the money.
