I sure as hell aren't. I cant afford to shell out £300 on a new console. I'd rather stick with the old ones for a while longer.
Ubisoft Says Gamers Are "Starving" for Next-Gen

There's a couple things that always come up in these discussions that I disagree with:
1. "Graphics are good enough now. Graphics don't matter, I don't need MOAR TEXTURES". Gameplay trumps graphics, sure. You can't make a bad game good by using more triangles. But better graphics make a game better. I can't understand how someone could claim that the console version of Skyrim is just as good as the PC version, unless you just really, really love the lore only or something.
Artists work really hard creating interesting HD textures that then get compressed down to a blur. Better graphics increases the possiblities for creativity. Would anyone seroiusly argue that Film hasn't benefited from color and better film techniques? Sure, there are amazing black and white movies. But there are also many, many amazing modern films that simply could not have been created without these new techniques. Is anyone clamoring for a return to SDTV? The idea is just crazy.
That's basically what you get with the compressed textures on a current console though.
2. Power just means better graphics. Sure, a new console generation will mean better graphics, but that's not all that more powerful processors can deliver. Games like Left 4 Dead were simply impossible to make before. The power wasn't there to model that many individual units. Games like Total War benefit from the ability to process larger and larger numbers of actors on the screen. Better AI can be developed with more power, or similar AI but running on more actors. Would anyone really argue that having accurate physics didn't change how games were created? That's certainly opened up new possiblities for games. There are kinds of things that could better be represented in games through better simulation. This discussion always involved gameplay over graphics, but more power means you can also have more gameplay since things that couldn't be processed before can now. Wonder why Minecraft* didn't exist 20 years ago? Because it would have been impossible to make.
However, the only problem here is that the new consoles probably aren't pushing things forward enough. I'll be really glad when they are out and developers start using them. That'll make it ok for the PC games to push forward that much more. But, it really doesn't look like the new consoles will have the power to really make huge changes. But, anything's better than languishing with the old consoles.
Oh, BTW, I've been gaming since the Atari and I'll often play older games.

I feel the same way. I miss the time when devs/publishers at least pretended to care about their customers. Now they just do whatever they want, and then when people complain, they say "Shut the hell up. Yup! I just love to pay a few hundred dollars to buy a piece of marketing technology that will have none-to-few good games on it for a while, isn't backwards compatible, and costs more to develop on, thus making game prices go up, less chances to be taken by devs, and causing more devs to go out of business! Can't wait!
I haven´t cared for any coming releases in about a year (with the exception of Armikrog) so i can´t say i´m that excited about a new generation, actually i´m not even sure if i care enough to invest any money in a new system. I´m content with what i got as there are still plenty of games i need to try that doesn´t require me to buy an expensive new machine.
It depends on what they're going to do with the power.
I was looking forward to the current gen when it started. One of the things I was looking forward to most was Burnout crash junctions with more cars and bigger explosions. Then Burnout Paradise came out and it didn't even have crash junctions.
I'm currently digging (still, I got it when it came out) Borderlands 2 and I would love for Borderlands 3 to have even more enemies running at me for me to shred with my orange guns without my system slowing down to a crawl.

I think im gonna set this one out for a year or two. If they are still developing great titles on 360/PS3, then i am content to stick with current gen. Not like developers are going to ignore current gen for atleast another year. To many consumers for games on current gen. Atleast after a year all the good next gen games will start being released and there will be a fun back catalogue to delve into. That is, if i bother getting a next gen console....I think every new gen seems less over whelming than the last. Roll on E3, i want to see what they have to offer.

Forgot about the crash junctions, had lots of fun with loads. Maybe they could make that as a digital download game they could make for a sell for cheap on xboxlive/psn? Best thing i loved about it was my baby brother could play it and do really well.GonzoGamer said:

no ubisoft, I'm not 'starving' for the next generation, none of you have made much of anything worth while with THIS generation i've little to no hope the next will be anything other then more of the same.
Uhh, Not so much starving for next gen, more starving for new or interesting games, and developers are now making games for the next gen consoles so nothing big is coming out until then. Though I will say this generation is actually starting to show its age.
The hilarious thing is that all of the self-proclaimed 'PC gamers' in this thread are saying the opposite. They don't seem to realize that with new console hardware, the standard of what a game can do would likely skyrocket considering how horrifically outdated the PS3 and Xbox 360 are in hardware terms.JokerboyJordan said:
Games are still primarily made for consoles. Better consoles with architecture closer to that of a PC means better PC ports and a lot more that developers would be able to do in the base game. I probably won't get a PS4 until a few years down the line, but I'm planning on upgrading the old PC when I have the money and I'm certainly ready for them to bring on the new tide. Just looking at what some developers can do with the hardware they've already got, I'm excited to see what they can do when they're not limited by stuff that was originally created practically a decade ago.
