.]this is completely different to the last airbender, Avatar is a new sci-fi film by james cameron in 3D. I didnt realise there was a book like someone wrote above.

It is a bit confusing seeing as shyamalan is filming the Avatar: the last airbender film also.
Aah, that clears things up a bit. Thanks.
I was wondering why a cartoon like that could ever become big. No offense to cartoons, I love cartoons and think a lot more can be done with them. Just not with that particular one.

Thank you, Spiff.
So no book?

You're not making really sense to me, but that might be because I'm half asleep.

Why would James Cameron make an Avatar film? It is a children's cartoon and completely unlike his other films. He must be down on his luck and working on whatever film he can get.

Nah, James Cameron's Avatar is different to Avatar: The Last Airbender, which M.Night Shyamalan is adapting to a movie, with the name Avatar.

For fuck's sake, you two are confusing everybody. There's only one way to settle this...

Avatar is a pretty good show, but TV to Film adaptations, especially with cartoon TV shows to non-cartoon film, usually don't go well. So I'm not expecting much out of this.

Are they talking about the last airbender or something completely different here? Because if it's that western anime that they're talking about, I think they are incredibly wrong.

This isn't the Avatar I'm thinking about, isn't it? The cartoon trying to act as a Japanese anime Avatar?

Because if it is, I find his statement laughable at best.

I'm hearing a lot about Avatar recently... this isn't the same kid with an arrow on his head, right?

I'm sorry it may have been a semi-popular cartoon series but it does not have the cult following. I liked it myself but I can't see this becoming a good movie series because much like dragonball it already has the viewer to have a standard on effects that animation can do better than live CG.

THIS IS NOT AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER, this is Avatar [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_%282009_film%29], by James Cameron. It is a science-fiction film and game pair, that will use extensive amounts of 3D including a new type of polarised 3D - the film's concept was originally brought into existence in the mid-90s. They decided to wait until NOW for the correct sort of technology to film and present it. Even if the film isn't amazing, the technology is mouth-watering and what it's done and will do...

...we'll just have to wait and see.

Now STOP CONFUSING IT WITH A CHILDREN'S CARTOON.

Edit: to answer your first question, I believe philosopher's was changed to sorceror's (or vice versa, I don't know which came first) because of the publishing company. They always try to change things like that.
Philospher's Stone came first, it was changed to Sorcerer's Stone when it was released in America.

They did a similar thing with Northern Lights (UK) and the Golden Compass (US) as far as I know, but they might have just changed the name globally to match up with the film which had a different name for some unknown reason.

Probably because there's already four Northern Lights films already.

Any folks from across the pond in the US can confirm/deny whether the Northern Lights was released as such in book form when it was first published?
Northern Lights may also have been changed because it is another name for cannabis. TBH, 'Golden Compass' is a shit title. Also, Lyra couldn't act.

Looking at wiki (i've done alot of research into this) it's not about Avatar: The Last Airbender, but something James Cameron made up years ago, about some marine dude, in the future who's paralyzed from the waist down, travels to some planet to take part in the AVATAR progam, which gives him a healthy body. Or something like that.

this is obviously a very, very brief half arsed synopsis of what i can be bothered to read on wikipedia, as it's late here in the UK

Nothing will ever beat freaking Harry Potter. HP has made J.K. Rowling go from writing her stories in pubs and trains to bathing in gold.

So this film couldn't get the rights the the subtitle "The Last Airbender" and it's just a cheap copy of Avatar without all the airbending that makes it popular? FFS, why is this even news then?

Huh. And here I immediately thought of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Sadly, I appear to have been wrong, and therefore, I don't really care much...other than to say that poster freaks me the hell out.

Nah, this isn't the same thing. It's, well, something completely different. It has nothing to do with the cartoon you are thinking of, it has no relation to it.

Oh and my apologies, M.Night Shyamalan's live action adaptation isn't called Avatar. It's called The Last Airbender. And I don't like the look of it to be honest.

I think James Cameron should team up with Terry Pratchett, 'cause Rincewind owns Harry Potter

This Avatar crap is confusing. The cartoon series, the book, the movie based off the book, the movie based off the cartoon, the game based off of the cartoon, the movie, and the cartoon's movie?

Head hurting....
