Apparently, the uncommon common infected have also been removed from the Australian version of Left 4 Dead 2. Why? Why would an infected riot guy be more... not nice than one wearing a shirt?

Because the riot police represent authority and the law, and cutting their spine out with a machete compromises that authority.

HEIL ATKINSON!
I am saddened by the fact that this is an extremely plausible answer.

Argh. This is why I refuse to buy L4D2. I want to give Valve my money, I really do, but this is just such bullshit.

I thought this was fairly old news? I recall hearing about it a while ago. At any rate, I understand valve fans who are in no way associated with valve are releasing an unnoficial patch/mod, that will ad in several new death animations, special infected etc.

I thought it was just the riot police ones. I was under the understanding that The hazmat, clowns, Mudmen, the ones that wear ear protection so they can't hear pipebombs etc were all in there. I think it's pretty dumb to remove any of them though.

That's bullshit, I just mow down about 40 police man trying to stop a terrorist attack in MW2. But keep in mind people it was valve that decided what to cut out and not the classification board, I feel valve really over did it though...

You've got to remember who they're dealing with though. I give kudos to Valve for not just outright giving up on Australia like Aliens Vs Predator game devs did with Germany.
Well considering that we're going to just go with "oh well it's a shame, nothing we can do" they went through the extra effort of actually allowing us to play it. And plus on the PC version it's actually... really really easy to put the gore back on. I somehow suspect they did this on purpose.

It's not Valve's fault. Blame the Australian Government dip-shits who think this kind of censorship and lacking an R/18 rating is a good idea.

Although I think there is one person there who is on 'our' side, but they're not listening to that person... I forget the name.

There is definately a group of people, in several countries, that believe that games that include violence against policemen should be banned. Whelp, glad I'm fleeing this backwater town in the next 18 months.

I wasn't blaming Valve at all. Quite the opposite, I think it must be so shit for them to have something they have worked so hard on, chopped and changed at the hands of some old fashioned jerks.

I feel bad for Australian Left 4 Dead fans. This is just ridiculous. I've seen that censored version and it just looks like the life of the game was just sucked right out of it.

Now, I understand the gore being taken out if this was a child's game, but this isn't supposed to be a child's game...if only they would get that...

This is why my friends have friends in America gifting the American versions to them, while I shall get a pirated copy and play on cracked servers.

It find it despicable that the OFLC has screwed with the Australian version to the point where people (like me) don't see the point in spending money on this game, and end up pirating it instead.

I'm sorry Valve, I know it's not your fault.

I never bought the first L4D either :(

I haven't played either of the L4D games, but I dislike the fact my Govt has to get involved and censor a game because apparently I'm not intelligent enough to discern the difference between actual police officers and zombie police officers.

Why the fuck do zombie/horror flicks get a free pass?!
Because they were last decades scapegoat for violence in society, as was TV. And then everyone wizened up... and now their dumb again and thus blaming games.

Personally, I think CSI with its ultra realistic, insanely gross hardcore sick disgusting content of people hacked up into pieces is more a concern for issue than some freaking pixels in a game.

I find real people with make up on them to look like they have had their head split in twain by an axe is more realistic and disturbing than a couple of pixels.

Looking at the video these changes arn't that bad. I mean yeah it's not that fun that all the bodies dissapear, but it could be worse. Also it does make it easier to see when your screen doesn't get covered in blood.

Oh, by the way for everyone who isn't Australian (I'm not) heres a video showing the changes.

Oh my God, that's rubbish! Like someone else said, why do horror films get a free pass and not games?

Anyone who buys this should be over 18, and therefore, should be old enough to distinguish real-life from a game...
Why, why, why do the Australian government continue to insult Australian gamers' intelligence? It seems as Yahtzee once said that the Australian government are trying to jump on the "Games are the new rock and roll" bandwagon...

Leave it alone, just enforce age ratings.
