Ultra Street Fighter IV PC Ditches Games For Windows Live

Capcom has confirmed that the PC version of Ultra Street Fighter IV will launch "around the same time" as the console editions.

Some good news for PC fans of Capcom's Street Fighter series: the PC version of its latest Street Fighter IV revision will ditch the dreaded Games For Windows Live interface for Steam's own Steamworks. Furthermore, you won't have to wait too long to play Ultra Street Fighter IV on your PC, as Capcom's digital media specialist Haunts has confirmed it will launch "around the same time" as the console editions.

"Yes the intention is to have them all launch at around the same time. Should have more deets on PC ver [sic] soon," tweeted Haunts when asked about the game's PC version, adding "It's coming to Steam, yes, we'll be transitioning from GFWL to Steam."

Capcom is a major member of the PC gaming alliance [http://pcgamingalliance.org/member-benefits/members/] (remember that?) and as such, has been making a huge effort to ensure PC ports of all of its flagship titles. A noble effort for a Japanese developer, as the PC gaming scene in Japan is but a blip on the radar. As such, two of the three editions of Street Fighter IV (vanilla, and arcade edition) have seen release on the Steam platform, albeit some time after their respective console releases. The simultaneous launch and adoption of Steamworks just shows how serious Capcom is about supporting the PC.

Street Fighter IV for PC already has a modding scene, producing things such as this Zangief/Sakura moveswap monstrosity [http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_xz702-M8M4]. The adoption of Steamworks, which is known for the ease in which users can create and share mods, should only serve to strengthen that scene.

Yay for me! Though TBH I didn't had any problems with GFWL in SF IV, unlike the piece of unbearable crap that is Dark Souls multiplayer, Capcom seems to have done quite a decent job with the online community of this game.

Is this like the ultimate version of the game? Do we get all the characters in this one? I didn't buy SF IV for PC because I heard that it lacks some of the characters from one of the console versions.

As you may know there are 3 versions of SF IV so far; SF IV, which was realeased for consoles and PC, Super Street Fighter IV (Only on consoles) and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition which saw release on consoles and PC.

USF IV should be the ultimate version of the game, but I thought the same of SSFIV AE, so... Inb4 Super Duper Ultra Street Fighter IV, Arcade, Turbo, 5th Strike, Alpha Edition.

Anyway taking out GFWL in favor of SteamWorks is a major leap. GFWL is a headache more often than not. From Software is doing the same with Dark Souls II.

Everything nice and all Capcom, but where is my Marvel vs Capcom 3 for PC?

Say what you will about GFWL, at least it has a true offline mode. Not like Steam's; First logon then switch to offline mode.

In any case, I hope this will have all the DLC with it.

After Vanilla SF IV, a few other versions were released. In Ultra, we'll see all of the characters from previous versions, 5 new ones, plus balancing, of course.
New characters (compared to Vanilla):
1.T.Hawk
2.DeeJay
3.Juri
4.Hakan
5.Cody
6.Guy
7.Adon
8.Dudley
9.Makoto
10.Ibuki
11.Evil Ryu
12.Oni (bigger, meaner version of Akuma)
13.Yun
14.Yang
15.Elena
16.Rolento
17.Hugo
18.Poison
19.Absolutely new character, that is yet to be announced.

P.S. Since you only had Vanilla, another bit of info: Now all characters have 2 ultras.

Doesn't "True Offline" simply mean that it is offline? Steam can be online indefinitely after that one login and I'm pretty sure you do have to sign in to GFWL at least once. I could be entirely wrong, so feel free to corect me.

OT: Nobody likes GFWL, but I'm not sure I'm any happier with Steamworks just because I like being able to play my games without extraneous programs running. Oh well, if it must be one or the other then Steamworks is still preferable.

This is amazing news. GFWL is one of the worst things to ever happen to PC gaming, and I'm so tired of developers trying to ram it down out throats, especially with single-player games like Fallout and the Arkham series, but it's real failings show through best with multiplayer games. Ask anyone who owns a copy of Dawn of War II or SSFIV:AE, and they'll tell you just how awful of a service it is.

So wait, does this mean that "Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Version 2012" doesn't count as a separate version? I know it was a patch that didn't get it's own $40 disc, but it's still technically a different version, no?

Also, do the handheld versions not count as separate versions? Because that was the case with many of Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha's variations (see: Street Fighter Alpha 3: MAX or that Gameboy port of Street Fighter II).

All-in-all, you should have:

Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Version 2012
Street Fighter IV (iOS)
Street Fighter IV Volt (iOS)
Street Fighter IV HD (Android)
Street Fighter IV (Android/Japan-only)

Nope. If GFWL detects no internet connection, it will allow you to create an offline profile.

When my last router crapped out, I suddenly lost all of my save data for Arkham City because GFWL couldn't log on.

After some research, it turns out that this is a disgustingly common issue.

Having said that, my PC runs Steam games just fine without an internet connection.

The Arcade Edition was the ultimate version of SFIV, until... well, the "Ultra" edition, wich looks like it will be the "ultimate-ultra-ultimate" edition... are we back into the 90's Capcom?

As for the Steamworks use, AWESOME!, the less we use GFWL the better.

Uh... nope. Absolutely any* game works with Steam in offline mode.
GFWL screwed my FUEL saves when I reinstalled Windows.

[small]*any game with single player capabilities.[/small]

Where can I buy the upcoming version? I wanna put down six or seven hundred preorders.

Hmm... I do think that it will soon be avaliable in Steam shop, if we are talking about PC version. If console version, then you can probably preorder at gamestop and such (I don't know for sure) or buy it as soon as it launches.

The question was rhetorical. :p Thanks anyways.

I'm just really, really excited for this. I don't know what to spend my pitiable money on first, Saints Row IV or Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Unless you PvP, then Saints Row for sure.

OT: It strike me as odd all the aggro GFWL gets in this thread. Has anyone here actually played this game and had a issue with it or is it just unbiased random stuff written?

I have the first Street Fighter IV under GFWL... this is one of those rare cases where it truly is just the worst.

Admittedly, Street Fighter IV's GFWL implementation isn't as bad as the other implementations I've encountered, which is like saying that using GFWL with SFIV is like being run over by a snowmobile rather than a bus (Fable III) or an aircraft carrier (Dark Souls).

Meh, I suck at noticing such things.

Considering USFIV is coming out somwhen in 2014, if you have the money to buy one game in late august, and then another one in 2014, then buy both.
If not, my voice goes to USFIV, because it will last longer (I think).

So they couldn't release this as a DLC to the earlier game because?

Capcom is quite notorious for getting away with charging almost full price for the same game but with just a few new characters. Almost EVERY single time as well.

But guess all of those hardcore fans of SF just goes "Oh boy, a new SF game!"
