Uncharted Film Hits Theaters Coming in 2016

Uncharted brings Nathan Drake to the big screen while Sony pushes back Spider-man films.

The half-tucked hero from the popular PlayStation franchise Uncharted hasn't been cast yet, but Sony has set a date for the feature film, June 10th, 2016. The date was originally set aside for Amazing Spider-man 3, but it and the super-villain mash-up Sinister Six have been [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136339-The-Sinester-Six-Dated-Other-Amazing-Spider-man-Films-Delayed"]pushed back[/a].

The Uncharted film [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/110429-Director-Walks-Away-from-Uncharted-Movie"]has[/a] [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111517-Uncharted-Movie-Bags-New-Director"]had[/a] [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119250-Uncharted-Movie-Dumps-Director"]trouble[/a] getting a lock on writers and directors, but will [a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136261-Uncharted-Movie-Likely-Begins-Filming-in-2015"]begin production in early 2015[/a] under Seth Gordon. [a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1164861/"]Gordon's[/a] best known in the gaming world for directing the documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, but has also had plenty of work with comedy on multiple sitcoms and his biggest feature film, Horrible Bosses. Given the humor of the Uncharted games, he could prove an excellent choice to direct.

The Uncharted film is not expected to follow the story of the first game exactly, but will take some of the more interesting points and build from there. And while there is still no news at on who will play Nathan Drake, I will still hold onto the impossible hope that Nathan Fillion grabs the role. Fillion has [a href="http://screenrant.com/nathan-fillion-drake-uncharted-movie-benk-125277/"]suggested using of inception[/a] to help him land the role.

Well, put it this way. If Nathan does get to play Nathan in this, I will probably see this movie. Maybe even in cinema.

If someone else gets the role, I'm likely to give it a miss. It just... won't have a reason to have my attention.

A movie adaptation of a video game that stole large sections of its plot from Indian Jones, Tomb Raider and National Treasure? GREAT! I can't see how this could possible go wrong.

Get Uwe Boll for the project! Uncharted will already be an amazing movie, but best to be sure eh?

So a release date of 2016, but production won't begin until 2015?

That's a pretty tight schedule...

This pretty much sums up my thought on this. And it would probably be better for Sony to get Uwe Boll for this so it wouldn't tank as hard since that guy makes his movies with 10k budget as far as i can tell.

Eh, if anything that'll mean it will be entirely forgettable.

That's my prediction. It will be the kind of movie you don't leave disappointed but won't remember the next week.
I don't really see this being completely horrible, it's so derivative they have plenty of things to 'get inspiration' from.

Why not? Indiana Jones is awesome and National Treasure isn't bad, so making a movie sharing the DNA with those movies are a good thing in my eyes. All it comes down to is how well they manage to put it together, just like any other movie production.

Sounds like it'll be a cheap cash in to wring money from the hands of people who thought Uncharted was anything more than a glorified YouTube video.

So there making another Indiana Jones movie?

Seriously, that's what Uncharted is. Why do these people keep choosing the worst material for video game movies?

I haven't played all the Uncharted games, so I can't comment on their quality, but if you take a game whose concept is "Like popular film archetype X but with gameplay" and turn it into a FILM, you're just going to be left with "Popular film archetype X".

This is why I'm glad that Halo film never materialized.
