Maybe you're in the store testing out a potentially new controller. Maybe you're just sitting there waiting for a game to load up. Chances are, if you're anything like me anyway, you're doing something with the controller without even thinking about it.

What do you do when you've got a controller in your hands, or that keyboard/mouse in front of you, when you're not actually gaming?

For me, as a fighting game nut, I tend to do dragon punch motions and 360s, particularly if I'm testing out a controller. I'm not sure why but there's just something about that F,D,DF+P motion that feels right.

Practise hitting V (melée) really fast without looking.

I always catch myself pressing whatever the "skip cutscene" button is on loading screens, as if it's going to let me skip the load.

I click my thumbsticks during loading screens. Might explain why every controller I own has semi-broken worn down thumbsticks.

I tap the four face buttons on the controller.

With a keyboard and mouse though, I make figure eights with the mouse pointer.

I twirl the the sticks and flick the shoulderbuttons. also, during gameplay tend to move the actual controller in the way I want to go as if it's a damn wii-mote :p must be an immersion thing. and this one time I was playing my DS waiting for a game to load, when it finished loading I unconsciously tried to use my ds as a controller XD

I always muck around with the l and r buttons or triggers, just pushing them in and stuff or rapidly clicking them.

I click the thumbsticks and assault the bumpers on my ps3, on the xbox I flick the LED light on and off whilst brutalising the triggers.

I usually just tap my hands on the sides to a beat from some song, I want to make controllers last as long as possible.

I twirl the thumbsticks in opposite directions. When on a computer, even at work, my left hand curls up slightly to rest on WASD ctrl and space.

I play with the buttons according to some sort of made-up beat in my head.

I do the same.

As in, exactly the same.

Though sometimes I also tap the bumpers on the 360 controller really rapidly.

I usually rub the sides of the grips on my 360 controller. Its funny, but they are so worn down now that it actually has a groove that my palms fit nicely into.

Depends, PS2 I'm playing AC5 and I'm too busy watching the loading screens and memorizing the Demon of Razgriz poem. 360, I'm on my ipod playing any random game that will keep me occupied for like 20 seconds. On PC, I'm also on my ipod, or I'm reading a few sentences of a book. So in all cases, I'm not even holding the controller.

Oh, lots of things.

Sometimes I play with the triggers and/or bumpers.
Sometimes I click the thumbsticks in (left right left right left right).
Sometimes I go in circles with the thumbsticks, or move them in opposite directions (LS goes left, RS goes right, and like that around in various directions)
And then sometimes I'll do weirder things like move around the face buttons with my finger. Diagonally through X and Y down through A and B, then circle around up to go through Y and B then X and A, and repeat.

...Games really ought to let me play more so I'm not molesting my poor controllers. :p
