Unearthed Wave Race Cheat Code Insults Your Skills

Even if you don't like Wave Race, this recently discovered cheat code will be hilarious.

NST developed Wave Race: Blue Storm [http://www.amazon.com/Wave-Race-Blue-Storm-GameCube/dp/B00005Q8LV] for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. Nine years later, a member of NeoGAF has apparently exposed a brand new cheat code for the game. This in itself sounds boring, but the cheat code is not something you'd expect to see in a family-friendly Nintendo published game.

While the secrets we already knew about for Blue Storm include the ability to race on a cute dolphin and a hidden zone, this one changes the announcer to a completely sarcastic jerk. Choose your rider and he says: "You have chosen poorly." Just before the race he'll quip: "If you were any good, you'd get a turbo by hitting the gas when the light goes green."

Throughout a race, the heckling announcer will say: "Is that the best you can do?" He'll also call you "pathetic" and "weak", and say that the race is a "waste of time." Even if you do your best to earn one of the game's turbo's, he'll sarcastically say: "Ooooh, a turbo."

And when the race is over, he's still not done insulting you. Upon finishing, he'll say: "You have betrayed what little trust I put in you." There's quite a bit of his hidden audio included in Blue Storm, though NST may have wanted it to stay hidden because it's entered through the game's audio settings screen and not the normal password screen.

A month ago when Splinter Cell's secret alien seal rescue mission [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102745-Unusual-Splinter-Cell-Mission-Remains-Secret-For-Years] was unveiled, I wondered what other titles had hilarious secrets like this. Little did I know it would be Wave Race. What's next?

The code can be found here [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=405993]

HOLY CRAP!? I didn't know stuff like this happened!

With strategy guides, the internet, talkative developers and people ripping the data off of game discs for piracy purposes, it seems impossible that things like this can happen, but they do, and it's AWESOME!

This.

But, frankly, these undiscovered cheat codes are awesome. We need more of them.

Now that's really, really funny.

Hell, makes me want to play the game just to shout insults back at the announcer.

Pff, for that you don't need to go back, just play any shooter on XboxLive. ^.^

The announcer sounded more "I'm bored with my job and I want to go home" than sarcastic, but ok.

I always liked Wave Race: Blue Storm, but I was under the impression that I was in a minority. It was a GC launch title wasn't it? Got a lot of stick for not feeling different enough from the N64 game right? Never mind, I liked it and this makes it even more awesome ^^

In any case, it's a franchise that Nintendo needs to get off their asses and revive!

What we really need is a new Splashdown game.. well, a Splashdown game as good as the first one. Maybe the new Hydro Thunder will be the first in a new wave (*groan*) in water racing titles?

Oh dear, i think you may need to be hit for that.

Anyways, nothing else to say except for i hope there are more games with hidden bits of awesomeness like this and it's not just a few games.

Heh. I feel like I'm watching the typical back-and-forth trashtalking in a DBZ episode.

Wait a minute. I am watching DBZ episodes!

"You don't have an inferiority complex, you're just inferior"... I actually laughed at that... what did you called it? an insult?...

Watching the video made want to play it again, it still has some pretty good water effects.
