So, yeah, um I was watching the Silver Surfer NES review from the AVGN and was asking myself: "Why didn't he said a word about the soundtrack?"
So, I was going on youtube typed Silver Surfer Nes Music, clicked the Video, expected the worst and BAM!

8-Bit music at it's finest! Seriously, the whole soundtrack is really great!

Okay, I know, I didn't mentioned an bad Soundtrack but I didn't want another Thread about bad ones to pop up...

Uhm, well, did you had soundtracks who you never thought that they could be so good/bad?

PS: Used the search bar, and I hope my english isn't too bad.

Awesome, yeah Silver Surfer did have awesome music, for the 8-bit era.

A lot of the Yugioh games actually had good catchy tunes, like the Eternal Duelist Soul and Stairway to the Destined Duel games had awesome battle tunes for Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba. Also in the Duelist of the Roses for the PS2 Bakura's duel music was surprisingly addictive to my ears, so symphonic.

Tony hawks American asteland was a big let down for me, i was used to the epic punk/hip-hop/metal tracks all the other games housed. Yes i no it was based int he 80s, but i was sure TH would manage to find some tracks to live up to its style. The same goes for need 4 speed fusion and the lastest Burnouts.

I was quite surprised at how nice ODSTs soundtrack was. When you were alone, wandering the city, I would just walk around and listen to it.

Not sure about good/bad ones, but just plain unexpected was Borderlands'. I expected a lot of 'tunes' (so to speak), that I could 'chill' (so to speak), to whilst blasting off baddie's heads. Instead, I got some wastelandish and isolation feeling music tracks. Not bad, just a bit 'wow'.

Left 4 Dead 2 has a surprisingly good soundtrack. The soundtrack in Left 4 Dead was still pretty good, but L4D2 is far superior.

I agree. I was happily surprised with the soundtrack of Left 4 Dead 2. The banjo is perfect for a game like that, plus the horde music is a lot heavier and intense.

Borderlands had a crazy good soundtrack. Not just the Cage the Elephant song, but the in game music. When you're fighting, the music that plays is perfect.

Can I mention a non-gaming example?
If so: Nightmare Before Christmas, which has ridiculously catchy soundtrack. Seriously, I've got a bunch of covers of all sorts along with the original one on Spotify. I just can't get enough of it.
If not: Umm, ignore this post?

The Warcraft 3 music was surprisingly unmemorable. I still know every tune from Warcraft 2 by heart, but Warcraft 3 was much more ambient. It didn't bother me, but it dissapointed me a little bit. I can't recall any of the music from it. The only music I can remember is the stuff from the trailer.

I was dreadfully disappointed by the soundtrack to Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonace (which is by far the worst Castlevania title I've played). How could they have done so well in Circle of the Moon and then fuck up so much on its follow-up? I realize that the two were made by different teams, but couldn't the HoD team take some audio cues from the CotM team, especially considering Circle of the Moon came out quite a bit earlier? Jesus.

The World of Goo soundtrack was surprisingly awesome, and I loved the music I got off the Borderlands website using DownloadHelper (firefox addon).

All of the Doom console ports (cept for one) had either bad versions of the music, or no music at all. Disappointing really.

Gears of War. I played through it and never noticed the music. When I got it later for my cousin, who's a huge Gears fan, I took a listen, expecting music as generically hardcore as the characters in the game, and holy crap. I expected some forgettable grunge-rock or something, and I got some of the most dark, fitting and well-composed music I've ever heard in a game.

Then they had to take Kevin Reipl off for the second one... not as good.
