Unexpected Pop Culture References

I recently bought Demigod and was happily chugging through a game using the mage type character when he comes out with this line: "I'm as cold as ice...." My mind immediately jumps to the song a split second before he finishes with "...and willing to sacrifice." Made me laugh and wonder if there's any other developers out there with a similar sense of humour.

Have you ever had a pop culture reference just jump unexpectedly out of the game at you? Which game?

Blizzard loads 'em into games all the time.

Having just done my first Naxx 25, Heigan's "Safety Dance" springs to mind.

There's huge long lists of stuff in WoW. Characters named after Start Trek crewmembers, the Zepelin Master Hin Denburg..
There's bloody millions of 'em.

Well, glad to see the weirdos won't get off of one game, maybe you guys should have read the other posts. Of course WoW is gonna have to many references, if you spent all that time there wouldn't you want to , ahh forget it, I'm to lazy to finish this.

There is a great one in Rampage. You turn into a one-eyed one-horned, flying, purple people-eater

Well, Blizzard's games are packed with 'em. But others have already said that.

Elsewhere, I liked Realtime World's take or Apocalypse Now when you die from being on fire in Crackdown (I love the smell of Agent in the morning). Rare tends to put a few references to their older games in their newer games. There was a Mumbo Jumbo statue in Viva Pinata, Leafos mentioned how she once played Grabbed By The Ghoulies. Heck, one of the levels in Nuts 'n' Bolts took place inside a game console and you could drive across discs of their old titles. And Burnout: Paradise has the DeLorean from Back To The Future 2 as an unlockable. Complete with hovering and leaving a fire trail at 88 miles per hour.

EDIT: In TESIV: Oblivion I remember meeting up with M'aiq The Liar [http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:M%27aiq_the_Liar]. That garnered some unexpected, but definitely entertaining commentary on the game.

M'aiq knows much, tells some.
I remember the time he told me about the Wareshark that was afraid of water.

The DS game Luminous Arc 2, an anime-themed fantasy title, has a female character named Dia who uses the phrases "Urge to kill... rising." and "Boo-urns!"

If you don't know why that is funny, you suck.

Mass Effect has some good shout outs to other SF franchises:

The Turians fought in a Unification War which ended in the colonies coming under the rule of a central government, much like the browncoats in Firefly.

Mentioned in the novel if not the actual game, Blue Sun is a band of mercenaries. Blue Sun was also the name of the organization responsible for River's brain damage (another Firefly reference).

Ashley Williams is named after that character from Evil Dead, and on the mission from Virmire will comment on how fun a nice day on the beach is...blasting bad guys with her boomstick.

An exchange between Shepherd and a Krogan on Therum can (if you pick the right dialogue options) mimic word for word a conversation between Kirk and a Klingon captain from the third movie.

A red shirt character is named Richard L. Jenkins, after Leeroy Jenkins.

The list goes on and on really. It just made the game that much more enjoyable for me.

VI on Noveria: It looks like you're trying to restart the system. Would you like help?
Shephard (renegade response): Crap, a pop-up!

In Tales of Symphonia 2, Colette wonders if Regal's company is training a bunch of super spies who hide in cardboard boxes.
