Are these people stupid or is the University of Wisconsin run by the Thought Police? Either way, this doesn't make the American education system look very good.
The American education system in itself is a joke anyway. This is just it making a further mockery of itself. I'm not surprised this happened honestly. Most Americans I've met have a terrible sense of humour if they even have one at all. *adds to list of reasons why she wants out of America* Seriously though if an adult can't make a decision on themselves in a place of higher education then there is something seriously wrong.....Well average adult with a little bit of common sense and no serious mental disabilities that prevent them from making decisions on their own.....

Really? I mean REALLY? next thing you know it's illegal to them to have a poster of someone falling over, smashing their knee into a rock with the quote: "Martyn forgot his glasses today"

"Sir, you must remove that. It's offensive to the blind, the vision impaired and depicts violence of an accidental cause"

personally I'd get a poster of Gordon Freeman with a crowbar, put in on the back of the door with a caption "Fuck off" if they were doing this.

In the words of Charlie Brown - Good Grief!

Sometimes I just despair for our society (shakes head in disbelief).
Where's a suicide bomber when you need one. . .
(Sorry - will that be considered a threat? Will I be banned now?)

I absolutely love Firefly, but am I the only one seeing the logic behind this? Sure it's stupid, I'm not arguing that, but if someone where to happen upon that poster and not having seen Firefly (poor soul) they could see it as a threat. I can definitely see why they did as they did, but I also agree that they shouldn't have.
Also, a campus threat assessment team sounds awesome!!

Ah Universities, so dedicated to protecting the rights and priviledges of others. As long as they're the RIGHT priviledges.

Let's make sure there's never any mention of Genocide, Wars, Apartheid, or all that horrible history/future - let's just make sure that it's nice happy utopian future, sponsored by a benevolent corporation.

Here's a clue, Chancellor Charles W. Sorenson, the reason you HAVE that University is because somewhere in the past - one of your relatives killed someone elses.

It'd be a real shame to censor that. Especially in a place of learning.
"Ok everyone, we are going to learn about how awesome we Americans were during WW2, and how we kicked everyones asses, and won the war"
'Um, professor? Isn't it true that we lost the most men on the beaches of Normandy?'
"Well we had the most difficult beaches to take!"
'But other beaches had more gun emplacements, more reinforcements, and were overall much more difficult to take'
"Well uh..."
'And is it also not true that the massive losses that Germany took in it's futile campaign in Russia, were a big factor in deciding the war? After all, it made our push into France much easier'
"YOU'RE A TERRORIST!"
'What? That doesn't even-'
"TERRORIST! TERRORIST!"
*police break through door, arrest student*
"GOD BLESS AMERICA"

I think the poster would have been better with; "I aim to misbehave" on it.

Still, this is stupid play by the university.

Normally free speech for the win, do not censor the people blah de blah de blah.

Unfortunately due to what's happened in US Universities in the past, he should have erred on the side of caution, not only is it insensitive but it could trigger PTS in someone.

If the guy was to put the captain's name and the name of the show after the quote, considering he's a drama teacher, it likely would have been kept. Something to think about.

threat assessment teams?
this reminds me of the guy on here who was put on a 'school shooting warning list' because he listens to metal music and wears black.

OT: well i see where theyre coming from. right now, my friend James is loading his LMG because the centerfold of a Kerrang magazine stabbed Ricky, and my Uncle Sam poster tried to choke me in my sleep.

On a lighter note, what in the hell is a "threat assessment team" and why would any university need one?
All the shootings, the anger, be they the picked on kids who decide enough is enough or the cold sociopaths...or for lesser stuff. Like the kid who writes a story that can be considerd a plan to kill everyone. Doesn't help everyone, but gods bless them they try.
They used to be the damage assessment team, whose job it was to recover all of the paperwork in case of atomic explosion or flood, before these new fangled thingamabobs with all the wires came in.

(only half-joking)

I'm sorry, what?

If a poster of Malcom Reynolds triggers PTSD in someone, then they've got far bigger problems than that.

Ridiculously over-cautious. Universities NEED to have something that will offend each and every one of the students. Because a picture of the Killing Fields or the like certainly should offend them. And that's what they NEED to teach.
