Upcoming Lupin III TV Series Is All Talent

Lupin III is coming back, and he's bringing an array of anime talent with him.

Long running anime/manga/everything-else-you-can-think-of franchise, Lupin III, has been handled by numerous different writers over the years, with an arguable highpoint being the second feature film, The Castle of Cagliostro, which was written and directed by a pre-Studio Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki. There may be some competition for that spot now, however, as the upcoming new TV series has brought together an impressive collection of big anime names.

Lupin III -The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is written by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Eden of the East, Samurai Champloo) and directed by weird existentialist director, Say Yamamoto (Ergo Proxy, Technolyze). Mari Okada, of AnoHana fame, has also been tagged for writing duty. Character designs are being provided by Takeish Koike. Koike handled the character designs for the visually stunning, Redline, and has animation credits in pretty much every awesome late 80's OVA you can name. We're talking Cyber City Oedo 808, Goku: Midnight eye, Wicked City, etc (if it was silly, vaguely exploitative and appeared on the Sci Fi channel at 3am during your teenage years, chances are he worked on it) as well as a slew of modern features. The music is being handled by Naruyoshoi Kikuchi, who not only gave Trigun its fantastic soundtrack, but is also an industry leader in sheer, unrelenting swag. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is a prequel to the original Lupin III TV series. It details the adventures of lecherous master thief, Arsène Lupin III, and his various cohorts (particularly his flip-flopping, kind-of-girlfriend Fujiko) during their earlier years. According to reports the show will be a little racier than the largely slapstick antics of the original series. The first episode airs in Japan on April 4th, no doubt to be swiftly followed by fan translations of varying quality.

Personnaly LOVED Lupin 3rd (always watched it when i was a kid). Cuz seriously? He was like robin hood, he stole from the Rich, occasionally gave it to the poor (theres many episodes where he does that), he has loads of gadgets and always a incredible plan (doesn't matter how stupid he makes himself look), and he is best friend with a gangster and a samurai!!!

Also i LOVE Dai Sato stories so i'm hoping for something great.

So happy for this thanks OP :D

I never watch Lupin probably, I only know him from The Castle of Cagliostro, tht other film with that evil genius mastermind is was very small and old looking and the abridged series by KaiserNeko. I guess this is the perfect oppertunity for me to get into the series.

I knew some series named Cliffhanger, but it was the same Lupin guy and it was pretty good, although I only watched like 3 or 4 episodes.

Ah Lupin...how I loved that show. I don't watch a lot of new anime anymore, but this is something I can get behind!

With it up till I saw the word "Redline".

It was kind of pretty but most of my opinion n that movie is just blocked by how much I disliked it overall.

This however could be fantastic and yes I see a Conan cross over in no-time.

This had better get dubbed. I'm a big fan of the the previous TV series dub (in spite of some questionable translation decisions, the acting was good), and Lupin III needs more Western exposure anyway.

Sorry David Hayter, but the rest of the Castle of Cagliostro cast kinda stank, so that dub is less good IMO.

P.S. Thanks

You expect something that came out [a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin_the_3rd_vs_Detective_Conan]several years ago?[/a]
OT: It makes me sad knowing we're probably not going to see an English release any time soon. Tony Oliver is the voice that introduced me to Lupin.

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about that too, the voice acting in Lupin III was pretty damn cool!

Oh and speaking of crossovers...

How many of you just experienced a glorious array of orgasmic nostalgic goodness mixed in with a bit of "what if?"

'Cause I sure did.

Oh no, I knew about that long ago. But like Magical Kaito, that doesn't mean they can't do it multiple times...

First, I'd like to show this.
If we're doing Lupinesque openings with video game characters, my favorite:

(Wish I knew if it was based off a specific opening or just in the style.)
