Well that sucks. Somehow I can imagine RoosterTeeth picking them up. They're good people.
I can see them doing that too actually. Seriously that sucks for those fired, I mean it's so close to Christmas and this happens. Plus with the update that makes no sense at all. Kinda glad I'm not trying to go with a partnership with Machinima. ^.^
do you even need one?

I'd be nice as I'd get revenue, but after hearing this I don't think it would be wise to go with them. I'll keep trying for GA. ^.^

maybe they can apply again with another set of skills
Maybe they can apply again with the same set of skills and the willingness to work for a lower wage. 9 times out of 10 that is what that means.

I would've hated if they had fired someone that I cared about. Still not a good thing to get fired this near to Christmas, but I just couldn't stand Shibley.

I hope this doesn't affect Freeman's Mind. That's my favorite thing to bear the Machinima logo.

P.S. Thanks
Machinima's staff is the people that work at Machinima, like those named here. But Freeman's Mind is one of many shows that come from Machinima partners, which is a different thing.

I could see that as well, but the only problem is that Rooster Teeth is not that big a company employee-wise. The last I heard the number of employees that they have numbered around 43. They really just do not need a ton more people working there. Maybe they would take in one or two, but not all twenty-three.

How can they be fired immediately without any prior warning? I suppose they didn't have employee protections of the sort to require any lead-up to the decision taking effect?

Well that seems a bit shitty to fire 23 employees all less than 2 weeks before Christmas.
That's when a lot of layoffs take place. New year coming up, they want to end the year with a positive outlook, and nothing frees up money for the new year like not having to pay 20 people a living wage. Yes, it pillages long-term survival and quality for short-term gains, but that's how much of the stock market works.

This is more for publicly traded companies where bonuses are tied to end-of-year projections, though.

I can't say Machinima is even on my radar as far as youtube channels go, but it really sucks to be fired for something that isn't your fuck up right in the middle of that time of year where the northern hemisphere dwellers generally prefer to have the heat on, and shelter.

I don't mean to belittle something like this, but why is it anytime when people get layed off it's inherently newsworthy?

Shame really. I always liked Machinima, they put out some great content. Hopefully things like Two Best Friends Play and Freemans Mind won't be affected.

Can't say I really followed Machinima once they shifted their focus to things that several other websites already do, with trailers and the like.

I know it's a sensible marketing decision, but jeez, talk about snuffing your niche market focus.

Those bastards fired Matt Dannevik! Matt and Adam are like the dream duo :(
They fired Dannevik? Wow... IGD is going to be very weird without him.
I really dug his distracted stoner style of presenting, him and Kovack (orhoweveruspellit) were an excellent double act imo.

So firing guys like that and hiring, sales, product and marketing eh?

Sounds like somebody is prepping to sell out... Machinima is going down the mtv route, tbh I can't remember the last time I actually watched some machinima on Machinima.

Probably planning to replace all their presenters with "hot gamer chicks". >.>

Machinima hasn't been good in my eyes for a looooong time.
They used to be fun/funny, now there is too much shit to sift through, and their IG has just gotten way to out of hand. Why do you need an episode every day? twice a week was absolutely fine- and I really liked it best when they did it once a week so they could try to engage in comedy along with it.

So they laid off workers due to expansion? Usually when I think of growth I think of acquiring assets not removing them.

Fuck dammit, they fired Billy Shibley.

At least Matt Dannevik is gone too apparently. I hope both they and everyone else find work but I couldn't stand Dannevik's demeanor.

Sucks people losing their jobs near christmas, but not surprised. Machinima is a worthless youtube channel anyway. Still, hopefully those fired will move on to bigger and better things.

Not so sure in this case. They've laid off people from production, but are hiring sales and marketing. Sounds like a restructuring.
