Update: MGR Revengeance PC Port Constant Online Connection Issue Fixed

At least, it does for now; this may be a Steam issue.

Fans of single player title Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6994-Metal-Gear-Rising-Revengeance] who bought a Steam version, take note: Steam may be the reason why you can't play the game offline. Steam customers baffled by the game's connectivity issues are venting their spleen on Steam's discussion page. Some who tried to be sneaky and booted up online, then took their machines offline, soon discovered that the game would kick them to the kerb once it realized there was no connection.

Platinum Games' Kellams, creative producer, fix it [https://twitter.com/PG_jp/status/421411000680583168].

The most likely culprit, at least for now, is the Steam API. If that's the case, a fix will probably be on its way within the next few days. In the meantime relax, de-stress and, if absolutely necessary, hide inside a cardboard box until things improve.

Update: Looks as if this one was solved quicker than expected, thanks to Konami [https://twitter.com/steven_key/status/421610897795481600].

Ugh.
I hope it is an issue and not intentional in any way. Planning to get this at some point but that just grates.

EDIT: Yay, it's been fixed. Now I wish I had a job so I could just splurge and get it but I can wait.

Ah cool, I picked this up yesterday cos I watched a let's play that really sold it to me a few months back. Nice to see I didn't get burned and they fixed/ are fixing the problem. Looking forward to a game of it later.

Good to hear that the issue got resolved quickly. Revengeance was one of my top games of last year; I'd have hated to hear people deprived of the chance to play it. Though I am admittedly glad that things got fixed before the complaints got out of hand...

What country do you live in?

Using a New Zealand IP I can view the game store page and the featured games page has a massive banner at the top advertising the game.

Glad to see it's fixed. Apart from that bug, Rising is a damn-fine port. And a really great game. I'm loving it.
