I'm sure this won't unbalance gameplay, it's just a way for players to turn all the useless crap they carry around for classes they don't use or maybe just items they don't like, into items that are useful to them!

Good show Valve! Good show.....

I don't get some of these responses. You get to use all the duplicate items you have and turn them into one of the weapons you don't. And if you already have all the weapons then you get to make hats. It's not like you're going to be able to make new weapons that aren't in the game, so there's nothing unbalanced.

As for when you make them, it's in the loadout screen, so you can access it in the main menu right when you launch the game. Or you can go into the loadout screen while you're actually playing, but that's a waste of time during the round.

People are theorizing that the different weapon levels are going to actually mean something along the lines of, at random, weapons being crafted with different stats. I don't think this is the case though since you're crafting them from blueprints and not just slamming items together uninhibited.

Ahh Team fortress 2 and its mild RPG elements...I hope this is real because I want to be able to make half sniper rifle half minigun weapn! It would be hilarriously over powered.
Actually, I think it'd be cool if there were some variables in making the weapon, so If you give it an extra long barrel, it'd fire more accurately but at lower rate, etc.

I haven't played TF2 in a while(well, since the spy update actually) but I have never seen that third weapon in the crafting area before.
From left to right; they're the Medic's Kritzkreig, Syringe Gun and Ubersaw.

Shame that we can't trade items yet but I've got half a packs worth of duplicated items, almost one of everything for keeps with a complete set of doubles. If I ever get stuck for getting stuff; at least I can craft what I want. I'm glad that it will allow for making hats too.

Incidentally the Ubersaw was one of the last items I got.

I promised some of my duplicates to some friends but I guess I'm going to use them all.

Ah, that explains it. I only have the Blutsauger and getting the other weapons either through achievements or randomly finding one is almost impossible because I don't play enough for it.

I believe you would only be able to use scrap to make existing weapons:
I.E. Two Huntsmans create a Jarate.
2 pieces of wood and 2 pieces of string create a glass jar of urine?

....Makes sense.

Interesting, but I am a bit worried that this might disturb the balance of the game somewhat, by moving away from the FPS elements.
Where have you been the last year? TF2 has basically become WoW, but with miniguns. This is just another step into RPG-land. *sigh* THis is why I bought the xbox version of tf2 :p

I've seen the receipe list here http://www.tf2items.com/crafting/blueprints.php to be honest considering the items you need to do any of this literally RANDOMILY appear I think they went overboard on this. For example:

say I want to make a pyro hat. First I would need 4 pyro weapons to make the token, then I would need another 3 any weapons to make scrap metal which you need 3 of to make reclaimed metal, which you then need 3 of them to make refined metal, which you need 4 of those and the token to get a hat which might not even be the one you want!

Now either I suck at math or thats OVER 100 items for 1 hat you might not even want! That kind of rate needs to be fixed -_-

my theory is that blueprints will be for all classes 4th weapon at some point. whoever wins demoman vs soldier just gets theirs' first
hopefully the pyro's weapon is better than the backburner....

It's pyro. Playing one of those is like playing a 'lock in WoW. Face it, the companies hate us. They skipped the Meet the Pyro section completely and just gave us some really lame gear in a update. Getting something decent out of them is fairly unlikely...
