This has to be the stupidest thing ever since Valve have already said they're not abandoning L4D cause they plan to add new content soon

What pisses me off is that I bought a $50 game that I can beat in 4 hours. Yeah, it's fun to replay, especially on Expert and with friends, but the horrible content to cost ratio has absolutely turned me off to L4D2. Not to mention that L4D was released on November 18 - that's less than 7 months ago - and already we have a sequel. Would you like a pint of my blood as well, Valve? This is bullshit.

EDIT: You know Episode 2 was released in October 2007? *sigh*

Of course not, but you lend no credibility to your argument with your angry ranting and sinking down to his level. If you can't be the bigger person and rise about such petty internet insults then don't expect your argument to be taken seriously. People like Katana, Wombat, Kinslayer, and others have been plenty articulate about the opposition argument, while you hurl anger, rage, and respond to insulting comments with some of your own. I advise you to put that stuff aside and talk from a more rational standpoint.

I'm curious - if L4D owners get a discount on the price of L4D2, will we see people come back and say they were wrong about Valve giving them support? Because some people somehow put a lot of stock about being viewed as "right" on the Internet, I have few doubts that the boycott group will claim credit for influencing things like the continuation of support for L4D or a price discount on L4D2, even when Valve has already stated they plan on doing so.

This sort of immediate gratification that some gamers demand these days, rather than actually waiting to see how the details flesh out, is a sidenote to this whole effort that I find disappointing. It's one thing to have expectations but it's entirely another to make them unrealistic. It's also disappointing to see how fans turn on a dime, even on a developer that arguably has more equity built up than most in the industry today. There's no such thing as waiting and seeing and making judgments based on sufficient information, and people need to learn to do that a lot more.

Why does the gaming community continuously seem to surprise me?

A potentially great game... sequel to one of the better games last year...
What isn't there to like? A new game, focusing on sorting out the problems and issues of the first game, whilst giving the player a similar yet different experience for the original. To me, that a win:win scenario.

Then again, I'm not like so many other people who think "But I just spent £40 a year ago on the game!", because my answer to that is "So, you haven't bought a new game in a year?" People need to get it out of their head that a sequel/prequel/whatever is a new title all together, and be glad that a quality title is heading their way earlier rather than later. That how I look at it anyways.

However, it is nice to know I'm not the only person in this thread who isn't rushing to hospital in the waaaambulance over all this.

I find that quite hypocritical though (not of you), as some people are doing the exact opposite of the boycotts and saying "Why are you guys complaining, it's VALVe!@!#!!$" because apparantly if it has a VALVe logo it is automatically the son of god and anyone who says otherwise (the boycotts for one) is a heretic.

it just seems that everyone has gotten used the good nature and free content from Valve which is leading a bunch of (PC) gamers to be awfully selfish. if you can't tell already Valve is broke and L4D is the best way to make money fast so they can continue to support their other IPs and finally finish HL2EP3. if I take a hit on IP so i can continue to enjoy CS, HL, TF2, etc then i'm fine with that...or maybe if Valve just decided that it can't continue to give away updates for free and maybe start charging a buck or two we wouldn't be having this debate in the first place

People will ***** about anything. If it isn't one thing, its another. I mean take the Dawn of War forums. Shit loads of bitching about DoW2, which it isn't that bad, but they like to complain non-stop. Or like how the new game Relic is coming out isn't going to be the PC..Big..F'ing...deal! One game that doesn't come out to the PC and they are making a petition for it to be made into a PC game. I mean most of them are just PC fanboys who say consoles sucks probably without playing one, but I think they are over reaction to the whole "OMG Space Marine isn't coming out to the PC?! I MUST NERD RAGE OVER THIS!!!".

For me I actually use my brain and though hey its pretty cool idea that its come out to the consoles, to get more people into the whole Dawn of war games, but most people don't use their brains sadly...Its like a endanger species we must safe!

*puts up banners and poster to save the brain!*

Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered. True
Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release. Probably not true, but I can see why they would think that
The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games. Kinda true
The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes. They might have a point
The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far. Patience, morons
L4D2 is too colourful to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic. We've seen two levels. Shut up and die
The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome. Agreed. Oh god, do I agree.
L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before. Again, they might have a point
The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release. Oh please. This will do dick to Valve's rep

I can see where they're coming from, but they're over reacting.
Good thing I read the topic for once, I was just about to make this post, damn near. As one of the MANY people who were very ready for some worthwhile DLC for "Left 4 Dead", the announcement of a new game did piss me off quite a bit.

For the record I neither mind the fiddle music, the new survivors, the daylight, or any of the asethetic or design changes.

I mind not getting them as DLC.

Obviously, the boycott group is made of whining babies. Why hasn't there been a Final Fantasy version of these guys yet? Valve is just doing what Square Enix does, re-skin, re-design, re-sell. (or something like that)But seriously, someone start one of these against Final Fantasy and all games by Square (except the KH series, i love that game).
Funny, you're name is Tidus, and since when does SE re-release the same game over-and-over?
From what I understand FFIII/VI is completely different from VII and VII is different from VIII. Are you saying that if we put let's say... X with X-2 or XII then we'd just get the same game, just re-skinned?

I actually agree with them.

There's alot of potential in Left 4 Dead one, that's going to be left "4 Dead".

Zombies in daylight suck, ruins the entire concept."Well atleast the shadows have been illuminated, we can't get snuck up on anymore", a quote in the near future. Now this little can be remedied, if they added a time-scape, as in dark at first, then gradually daylight. I also do not like the new survivors, especially the one who looks like a recycled,human-textured scout. Again, easily remedied, add the original cast.

Plus we're going to deal with a entirely different zombie class. Since this is done close to "Nawlins"(had to use it), They have to enforce Voodoo Zombie rules, which are;

-Lead zombie kills rest.
-A counter ritual must happen.
-Only after death, zombie-fication happens.
-No Army.
-MUST BE ABLE TO MOVES WITHOUT SOME LIMBS.

Anything else and they're violating the idea, like so many priests to choirboys.

PLUS, They should be working on completely importing TF2 onto the XBox.

The AI director is going to control things like weather and the skybox (afaik)

I'm sorry to break this to you, but...

Louis, Zoey, Bill, Francis?

They're dead.

Remember the lighthouse level? The one with the tagline "It doesn't end well"? Exactly.
