I played Final Fantasy XI a lot and keep up with some stuff. This is a story of a player of such who asked if she could borrow a prop Portal gun from Valve themselves. What follows is her story and the generosity of a game company that deserves it's consistant winnings at March Madness.

Cheers.

But... but... DRM! And Monopoly! And offline mode!

... ahh forget it. This is simply awesome.

That is simply phenomenal. That's a great way to treat your fans, she'll never forget this for the rest of her life.

"So, what did you do over the weekend?"

"Oh, I went to PAX, cosplayed Chell and waved around a portal gun which Valve gave me after I just asked nicely."

...yeah. Actually, I think that last line makes you win at life.

Cool story ...sis?

What an awfully nice bunch of peeps over at valve!

I bet they will be swamped with requests now.

Pity the one thing everybody wants they haven't released yet.

Ya know, I haven't felt right about Steam since that whole "Accept any TOS changes or lose your games" thing. I actually feel bad for even looking at Steam these days. Not that they offer any good daily deals lately anyway.

Still, this kind of stuff is awesome. I am conflicted.

You don't lose your games if you dont accept the new ToS, your account just gets deactivated.

Quite awhile back Valve changed it to where getting your account deactivated doesn't lock you out of your games, it just prevents you form buying more, and using some of the social features of Steam.

No, there was a long thread about it and not agreeing to the TOS means your account is closed and access to your games is lost. In that thread it was discussed that Valve let some people keep their games but that didn't apply to those who didn't accept the new TOS.

I'm a bro, but she's a sis.
I meant the girl starring in the story.

Is it bad I think if a guy had asked to borrow the portal gun, the valve people would have said no?
If it was a male asking to borrow the portal gun because they were cosplaying as chell, i'd say no as well.
So dressing up as a made up person in a game is fine but dressing up as a made up person in a game who is also the opposite sex is no no?

Well, there go my hopes of dressing up as Cammy!

So...All that happened was Valve gave a girl a portal gun, or did I miss something?

Don't get me wrong, it's great and all, but the topic and earlier comments has me expecting something super amazing and / or life changing, this is more of "huh, cool"... Pretty great for her, but pretty irrelevant as far as saying anything about a company goes....
