I think that technology like this will lead too AUG reality games. They have one that is similar for the 3DS where you use the devices cameras to hunt down and battle ghosts.

3-5 years? yeah keep dreaming. 10 years? maybe with a full R&D budget and unlimited supplies. just to do something like that without hand input you'd have developed the tech to track eye movements. and that has to fit in glasses which will have laser projected HUD on the lenses so gotta figure how to do that. plus we're talking about processors, memory, and i assume internet connectivity in glasses.

i'm not saying it can't be done, but i am wondering if the tech is a feasable and if it is could it be marketed in a way that could make profit.

If the internet were to go down for one day our society would collapse, I'm not sure this will help with that. If the internet would go down for one day we wouldn't be able to see anymore.

What's with Valve and gimmicks lately? I'm sure as hell like to see their biometrics work...From a third-party point of view.

You read: They're making computer glasses
I read: They're possibly shifting resources from Half Life 3

Yeah. I'll probably end up buying them. I think it'd be good for some ARG stuff, and chatting to friends. Maybe bluetooth connection to a phone with Steam mobile for voice/video chat.

Valve. Once again proving to us that having a real HEV suit is closer than you think.

Captcha: Face to Face, good Daft Punk song that.

You know what, this doesn't sound like a totally stupid idea. My first thought was "hmm prescription lenses for something like that would be hella expensive". But then I figured in 10-20 years we'll have practically cured blindness so bad eyesight should be an easy fix.

Deux Ex shades here I come!

I'm not sure I get the point of a video game company doing this. Unless the end goal is to have the glasses be able to double as actual, opaque "eyephones" that people can use in lieu of a TV set or monitor, allowing 3D movies and games to be more immersive. That's something I would love to see, especially now that portable computing devices are approaching the processing power necessary to render photorealistic game graphics.

I know Valve has a habit of not giving people specific job titles, but I don't see much potential overlap in expertise between programming/designing an upcoming game and engineering physical hardware.

So is this somehow related to Google's Project Glass? Or am I just dreaming fluffy dreams?
Probably two different teams working on similar projects. Google will probably focus more on the Social Media aspect while Valve... I don't really know what Valve would focus on, hopefully something slightly game related

Oh boy! This looks really....STUPID.

Seriously, it's going to create a transparent overlay that allows you to see through them to the real world at the same time you see the display? That would make the graphics incredibly crappy. Everything would be this see-though film that would pull you out of the game every time someone or something passed in front of you. And even if something didn't, you'd still be looking right at stuff in the real world, which unless you're staring at a blank wall could potentially effect your ability to see certain graphics.

I have REGULAR glasses that I don't like to wear because they mess with my peripheral vision and hurt my ears, how are futuristic computer glasses going to make it any better?

I think I just answered my own question, actually...

I was thinking about money shifting from HL3 to the R&D of these glasses.
