[HEADING=1]VIDEO GAME PROTAGONIST BATTLE ROYALE[/HEADING]

Ladies, gentlemen and alien overlords. Welcome to the Escapist United Nations of Pure Fun's [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapist-United-Nations-of-Pure-Fun] very first Video Game Protagonist Battle Royale! Here the heroes from your favorite video games will go head to head in glorious battle to determine who is the bravest, who is the strongest and who is the sexiest.

Here's how it will work. Take two or more protagonists from the games you have played recently and describe how a fight between them will go down. These fights will go down in the EUNPF Battle Arena - think Final Destination from Super Smash Bros. The fighters have been told the only way to win their freedom is to best their opponent in combat. Any other rules or restrictions are up to you.

Entertain us with the craziest, most ludicrous match ups you can come up with! If you want to write a short story detailing the fight, go nuts! Certainly not a requirement though.

Now for our first match: Yu Narukami (Persona 4) vs Salvador (Borderlands 2)

Pros:
- Can summon a variety of different Personas to battle (versatile)
- Proficient katana wielder
- Calm under pressure
- Swag master of Inaba [http://i.imgur.com/RiZdv.jpg]

Cons:
- Usually works in a team (not used to fighting solo)
- Low durability, reliant on healing magic/items

Pros:
- Master of all manner of firearms
- 'Gunzerker' ability - for a short time can dual wield and regenerate health and ammo
- Energy shield for protection

Cons:
- Not terribly effective at melee combat
- Terrible fashion sense

In a battle between these two fierce warriors I believe Salvador's best strategy would be to never give Narukami a moment of respite. He should make good use of his gunzerker ability and just spray as much lead as possible. Since Narukami can summon practically any Persona, if he gets a chance he'll be able to heal himself right up and launch an onslaught of destructive damage (MEGIDOLAON)!

The critical point will be when Salvador needs to reload. He can rotate through four guns at once, but once he's used all of his shots he's going to have to reload one of his weapons. If he can manage to take down Narukami before then, he'll win. If not, Narukami will win.

Personally I think Narukami is good enough to survive the initial onslaught and bomb Salvador into oblivion. He isn't known as The Ladies Man of Inaba purely for his good looks you know ;)

Narukami would obviously win. He'd order Salvador to lose, and the king's orders are absolute. Also, Personas don't require reloading.

Match up: Lilian Vess (Magic the Gathering) VS. The Arisen (Dragon's Dogma)

Pros
-Master Necromancer
-Strategist
-Experience (Age is in the Hundreds)
-Has spells to heal herself and harm others

Cons
-Arrogance
-Takes time to cast spells
-Deficient in CQC

Pros
-Well Experienced Warrior
-Extremely Strong
-Weapon can take down many enemies at once

Cons
-Usually works in a team
-Can tire out easily
-No way to heal himself

Now, this fight all depends on whether The Arisen can cut through Liliana's forces faster than she can summon them. If The Arisen can get up close and personal, then it's all over for Liliana. This may be an uphill battle for him though. He's wearing heavy armor, on top of carrying a large sword. So now, not only does he have to fight through her forces, but not tire out as well. If that wasn't hard enough, she can cast spells to heal herself and harm the Arisen. I think the final outcome is clear.

The two contestants would be The Prince (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) and Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles):

Pros:
Is highly proficient with weapons.
Has incredible acrobatic abilities.
Can rewind time whenever he fails.
Has access to numerous time-based sand powers.
Has incredible stamina.

Cons:
Requires sands in order use powers and rewind time. Since there are no sand monsters around, he cannot replenish.
Has a tendency to act before he thinks, often to his detriment.

Pros:
Can see into the future, allowing him to predict his opponents' moves.
Has numerous powers from the Monado.
Is very intelligent and often doesn't act rashly.
Has access to numerous gems that can add extra powers.

Cons:
Not very experienced in combat.
Tends to bear more burdens than he can handle, often causing harm to himself and others.
Not used to fighting alone.

As an extra note, Shulk is being considered after Zanza unlocked the Monado. Otherwise, it would be incredibly unfair, considering he would be incapable of defeating The Prince due to the Monado's inability to harm humans prior to Zanza unlocking its full potential.

As far as I can see, this battle would have The Prince using his acrobatics and sword skills to attempt to outdo Shulk, but since Shulk is able to see the move before it happens, The Prince is forced to start rewinding time in an effort to stay alive. As he runs out of sands, he realizes that he cannot attack Shulk normally. As a result, he drastically slows down time so Shulk's ability to see what is coming will be rendered moot. However, Shulk sees the power coming and forms a barrier around himself to protect himself from The Prince's onslaught, making the time slowing useless. Ultimately, The Prince's lack of planning reduces him to only one sand that he has to conserve for an emergency, forcing him to use his acrobatics to avoid Shulk's attacks. His new plan is to tire Shulk out and attack when Shulk can no longer hold up a defense. However, Shulk, seeing what will happen if he continues assaulting The Prince lays back, forcing The Prince to start mounting his own attacks. However, The Prince learned from his numerous failures that Shulk can see his moves coming before it comes. In one last hope, he attacks Shulk, but when he sees Shulk's eyes turn blue (a sign that he is receiving a vision), The Prince waits until his eyes are no longer glowing and quickly reverses time a fraction of a second, changing his attack in the process. This confounds Shulk's vision allowing The Prince to land a harsh blow. Without a healer around, Shulk is forced to take drastic measures or face defeat.

Under these circumstances, Shulk quickly attaches a gem that damages anyone who attacks him while he is down from a serious blow. The Prince, not knowing what just happened, continues his assault but feels searing pain every time he attacks Shulk. This eventually weakens The Prince, allowing Shulk time to recover. However, Shulk's own injuries have not gotten any better. In a last ditched effort, he releases the Monado's heavy attack and swings, hoping The Prince has been weakened enough to not be able to dodge the incoming blow. The result...

The Prince's stamina ultimately allows him to dodge Shulk's blow. Shulk, with no other option, ends up collapsing from The Prince's earlier blows.

It's a clash between New Yorkers! My contestants are Kurtis Stryker(Mortal Kombat) and Johnny Garland(Shadow Hearts: From the New World).

Pros:
- Stryker uses a wide range of police weaponry such as grenades, tasers, and guns in combat.
- His armaments allow him to attack his enemies from a distance.
- Is part of the Riot Control Brigade which can infer that he has received intensive training in detaining hostiles.
- Wears protective riot gear making him more durable to blunt force.
- Is in excellent physically shape and proficient with his weapons.

Cons:
- Vulnerable to magic.
- Approaches phenomena with the mindset of a typical police mission.
- No special powers as he is a normal human being.

Pros:
- Can channel powerful magic through his knife which has an unspecified length as it fluctuates depending on its strength(think of it as Kuwabara's energy sword from Yu Yu Hakashow).
- Has a camera which when used on his opponent reveals to him all of their stats and weaknesses.
- Has a supernatural vacuum cleaner which (to put it in simple terms according to its use in gameplay) can suck out the opponent's willingness to act and replenish his own.
- Has a devastating trump card called "The Awaker state" which drastically increases his strength and overall fighting capabilities.

Cons:
- Is naive and not very confident in combat.
- Relies much on his bodyguard Lenny who cannot assist him in a fair one-on-one fight.
- Is uncontrollable in his Awaker state which leaves him susceptible to becoming enraged and wide open to attacks.
- Very inexperienced in combat as his attacks are familiar to that of a common street hooligan.
- Is used to fighting in a party who can help control him in his Awaker state.
Now for our favorite Earthrealm policeman, this match-up would seem like a sick joke. A trained policeman with U.S. Marine training under his belt up against a seemingly harmless 16-year-old boy. Considering Stryker's overwhelming sense of justice, the most he could initially bring himself to do is to restrain Johnny. How I see the battle going is that Stryker would go for removing Garland's knife by stopping it short of a low stabbing motion by gripping Johnny's wrist, which will take him by surprise as Johnny channels energy through the blade growing it long enough to cut under Stryker's arm. Stryker will back away and reassess the threat Johnny now poses.

Shortly after, Johnny will use his vigor-draining vacuum on Stryker who will realize the effect it has on him. Stryker thinks fast and throws his taser into the suction which short-circuits the vacuum rendering it useless. Johnny then takes out his camera which Stryker doesn't hesitate to shoot out of his hand. After assessing that Johnny has run out of tools, Stryker closes in to focus on disarming him of his energy blade which he expertly wrings out of Johnny's hand. Stryker follows up with a submission hold by twisting Johnny's arm behind his back kicking the back of his knees to make him kneel and pushing his face into the ground completely restraining him. Stryker wishing to end the fight without any more violence handcuffs Johnny. Almost certain in Stryker's victory, he puts Garland in a sleeper hold and just before it's lights out, Johnny enters his Awaker state which releases a blinding light that stuns Stryker. Johnny easily breaks the cuffs in his new state and delivers a hard-hitting strike which knocks Stryker far backwards onto the ground.

In a daze Stryker sees the now-stronger enemy moving towards him. He scrambles for his concussion grenade which he pitches directly at Johnny. The grenade stuns Garland as he grabs the sides of his head in a rage. Stryker already running, gets close to Garland and viciously lays down a barrage of baton blows to his cranium. Johnny thrashes his head in his hands as the combined strikes with the concussion grenade makes him absolutely livid. His lowered arms burst with energy as he grabs Stryker by both of his ankles and throws him upwards making Stryker backflip and land straight into Johnny's fist that punches him directly in the gut. Johnny follows with grabbing Stryker's arm in mid-air and pulling him directly into a lariat. Stryker lays on the ground below Johnny and quickly baton sweeps his feet dropping him beside Stryker. Stryker quickly pins Johnny and starts laying more blows onto him with his baton beating him to a pulp. More blinding emits from Johnny as Stryker continues to wail on him until...

Johnny lets out an Ether Purge which obliterates Stryker who layed directly on top of the source of the blast.
Johnny Garland then celebrated his victory by buying lotto tickets from flaming gay bikers and staring at Shania's jumblies.

Personally, I leave the O in for an amusing acronym to shout: EUNOPF!

OT: Let's see here... How about a little two-on-two? Protagonist rivals versus the same. I give to you Dante and Vergil of Sparda against Kain and Raziel of Nosgoth. How does this work? Check out the info.

These two are both enemies, overall, twin brothers who are as different as two sides of a corn, but it is a matter of fact that their rivalry will not abide an interloper in most cases. That is why they both went out of their way to defeat Arkham when he wanted to steal the show and the power of their father. The use of these two at once counts as protagonist because of the option to play as Vergil in the Special Edition of DMC3 with his own take on progression through the game.

Dante, of course, is the red-coat-wearing, wisecracking, cock-sure and never-shutting-up devil hunter of New York, armed with quite an arsenal of weapons. Because DMC3 is a prequel, however, we'll be limiting his pizza-loving ass to the weapons of that game only: Rebellion, Cerberus, Nevan, Angi & Rudra, his usual arsenal of guns (including the Kalina Ann), and both Quicksilver and Doppelganger abilities. He is numerous in his styles of fighting as well, and can Devil Trigger too, of course.

By contrast, Vergil is the cold, determined, and refined (if sometimes full of himself) guy who has wandered the world in search of the way to procure the full power of their father and awaken to his ultimate potential. Of course, because he only has one half of the amulet, his power is limited, but Vergil has a number of abilities. He never EVER uses guns, but forms and launches energy swords at will. He DOES carry the legendary sword of Sparda and can use some of its power, but also possesses Yamato, Beowolf, the ability to Devil trigger.

It is, of course, well-known that Kain and Raziel have been bitter enemies since...well...Kain ruined Raziel's unlife for showing off his bat-wings. However, as the two protagonists of Legacy of Kain: Defiance, these two have been working towards essentially the same goal as different parts of the same unit. They're both gray-on-gray morality, yet the dark nobility give them their personal charm. Their stories are both highly-conusing since there is time travel involved. Because of circumstances involved IN Defiance, these two will possess only the powers of that game.

Kain is the vampire lord once a human noble in his world, changed by being killed and implanted with - Oh wait, we're in the spoilers, so I can talk about it - THE HEART OF DARKNESS. Thus imbued, he carried on his way to eventually form a vampiric empire that eventually degraded as Nosgoth was put through the wringer and he discovered that his rule was a joke, and he didn't like the punchline. So, he's out to change it. Armed with the physical Soul Reaver, it can use fire, lightning, dimension, and time attacks. He personally can transform into mist temporarily or into bats for travel purposes. He drinks blood remotely from any badly-wounded being and has psychokinetic power.

Raziel is the former lieutenant that Kain had a bad day with where he was cast into oblivion and woke up as a soul-eating wraith who can switch between the timeless netherworld and the material realm. He has since tried to find his place in the universe, most notoriously wanted as the pawn of both the saviors and destroyers of the world. Bit weird. Though his wings are ripped, he can still glide, though one would hope he'd stitch them up some day. He is bound to the wraith-form of the Soul Reaver, a weapon that can be charged with a number of elemental powers, such as gaining fire from a simple bonfire. He can also PK something fierce and drink the souls of the dead.

Because it's late and I'm tired and I have stuff I gotta do tomorrow, Jack's gonna leave this one up to you in the name of the ole' Anime Fight Club style.

Clash of beauty Vs. brawn, Maya (borderlands 2 also) Vs.Captain Titus (SPESS MEHRENE)

PROS:
Huge ass chainsword can tear most things to shreds,
His sidearm launches the equivalent of RPG rounds, and is /punishingly/ accurate
genetically enhanced, so is harder better faster AND stronger
His armour is quite literally, hard as a tank
his voice is Mark Strong
CONS:
Can be slow to get to places, unless he has jump pack
Not exactly inconspicuous, a very easy target
Can become fanatical beyond reason, so susceptible to trickery.

PROS:
C'mon. You gotta have blue hair.
Can Phaselock opponents, rendering them easy pickings for her wide arsenal of elemental guns
A huge variety of guns and elemental effects to blight her enemies with, with corrosive to eat through Titus' power armour, and fire to burn the flesh beneath
what use is a huge chainsword if you can't get close enough to the nimble bullet witch to use it?
Mother-frakkin'-PHASELOCK
Almost certainly out DPSs Titus at range
CONS:
can be fragile, or at least, as certainly not as tough as Titus
will get utterly destroyed in melee by the 8 ft tall killing machine

The sands of Pandora scattered and wheeled around a blue clad giant as he strode towards Maya. Flicking the ignition switch upon his chainsword, the 3 feet of adamantium blades roared to life, and the desert air was set alight with the sound of carnage. His heavy stride broke into a sprint as he tried to close ground, snapping of shots with his bolt pistol each time his ceramite clad feet hit the ground. These bolts were absorbed and nullified by the Siren's shield, but that was not the thing which worried Titus. She was smiling. In all 1100 years of his service, Titus had never seen a sane being so much as smirk at a space marine's righteous advance. Suddenly, with a alien noise and a flash of azure, his motions were not his own, and as the swirling designs her shoulders lit up to a bright, sky blue, he felt himself lifted into the air, confined by a sphere of roiling blue energy. Gashes of pain lacerated his body as hammerblows from the witches pistol, a xenos design by the looks of it, slammed into him with acidic thunks. Their discharge began to gnaw through his plate, and panic set in. The witch was steadily retreating, but the barrage of elemental shots continued, as a full spectrum of colour arced towards him. The entrapping sphere was still halting his movements, but Titus could feel it gradually weaken. With a roar of zealotry Titus tears the ethereal void open, and as Maya unloads even more bullets into him, an aura of divine benevolence enwraps him. He's angry. Within 2 moments Titus has bounded up the rocky scree and smashes Maya full in the chest with his pauldron, his range granting him strength and training giving him focus. With two ferocious slashes his chainsword moves in gory arcs, tearing Maya's fragile body in twain. As he stands, panting over the dead heretic he knows he is being watched. The winner?

Titus killed his love. Now he's pissed.
