Video Game Voters Network: Make a Badge, Win Some Bucks

The Video Game Voters Network is holding a "Badge Design Contest" with a $750 Best Buy gift certificate up for grabs.

If you've got an artistic bent and a Best Buy [http://www.bestbuy.com/] within reasonable driving distance, this is your big chance to put them both to good use. The VGVN has made its declaration: "The future of videogames is at stake, and we need your help!" And that help, apparently, needs to be in the form of a new badge.

The rules are simple. Badge designs should incorporate the name "Video Game Voters Network," the acronym "VGVN" and/or the address www.vgvn.org. The contest runs until August 23 and designers can submit as many entries as they like, in .GIF, .JPG or .PNG format, no larger than three megabytes. Once the contest period ends, a panel of judges will select the top ten designs, which will then be put to the public for a vote. The winner will get a $750 Best Buy gift certificate while the runner-up takes home a GC worth $250.

The Video Game Voters Network is an advocacy group for gamers that works to protect the First Amendment rights of videogames, a common target for politicians and others who fire sensational, baseless criticism at the medium and sometimes even attempt to impose unconstitutional restrictions against them. With California's appeal of its overturned videogame law coming before the Supreme Court [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/the-needles/7576-The-Needles-Master-Chief-Goes-to-Washington] in the near future, the VGVN is working to raise awareness and get the word out about the importance of the issue.

Supporting a good cause, showing off your creative talents to the world and maybe taking home some free loot from Best Buy in the process? Sounds like a win to me. Take a look at the full contest rules, or just make something up and send it in, at videogamevoters.org [http://www.videogamevoters.org/page/s/badge-contest].

I liked VGVN, but I think they are taking their lobbying to far nowadays and their recruitment methods a little spamish. We all want to protect the first amendment rights of video games.

Damn. The nearest best buy is an ocean away. I make good badges (such as the Escapism UK 2010 badge). Well I'll make my OWN contest. With Blackjack, and Hookers. In fact forget the Badges and the Blackjack.

I can't find anything about dimensions, so I'm just going to assume they don't matter. I guess I'll give it a try. No harm done if I don't win.

Damn, I'm in the UK! Oh well. I had a decent idea, shown by my avatar. (The texture in the lettering are the bricks from the mario games.) Does anyone want my full logo? I can email it to you, if you want. (Bear in mind that the full one is 2089x1780.
EDIT:
This is my basic one.
That is my stylized one. Anyone who wants to edit it and submit, go right ahead. (Just make sure you send my £50 in the post if it wins. ;))

This is quite fun actually. ^_^

Here's one I'm working on.

Basics, a rough outline. I'll go back a bit later and change up somethings. Clean it up and blend the shadows. Since contestants can submit however many they wish, I'll make a series of this one and try out some different stoof. :D
