Yes, actually we know sociologically how movies and pop culture influence the values, demeanors and attitudes of both cops and gangsters. It's not a stretch to consider that videogames do as well, given that they weight just as much in pop culture.Like, the weird thing is, if you were going to accuse anyone of being influenced by video games in this situation, wouldn't it be the cops?
(As for the french situation. Again, I've got two beloved french co-workers with diametrically opposed perceptions of the events. One being distraught at what she sees as thoughtless young thugs rampaging through society, the other overjoyced by a revolution that "this time" is different in scope and depth of motives from all the previous failed ones. And in the middle between them, I'm too jaded to feel anything about it. I see it as a non-event, some familiar cyclic noise that will die out as the government wait it out in its bubble. The only events I register are electoral. And these crises don't translate to votes. In short : people whine about the government being right wing, and then elect a right wing government. I'll share that co-worker's enthusiasm when votes will reflect an actual rejection of what is being denounced in these protests, instead of embracing it all the more. I don't believe in revolutions or changes by noisy angry minorities - the only function of minority noise is to shift global awareness, and that's not what these actions do.)
