Video Shows Real Life Batarang Working Just Like In Comics

A professional boomerang maker has crafted a real Batarang that actually works.

Professional boomerang maker Victor Poulin has just made one big step in making people feel like Batman -- minus the billions of cash, awesome car and deadly fighting chops -- by crafting a real life Batarang that actually returns when thrown. Granted, it's a lot bigger than what we've seen in the comics or movies, but seeing it in action might make you want to don a cowl and a cape and speak in a gravely voice.

The Batarang shown in the video is 25-inches wide and is made from the best 10ply Finnish birch around. At the end of the video, Poulin also shows off a smaller version of the Batarang that people can purchase for $55 on his website [http://www.boomerangsbyvic.com/], which is a small price to pay to step into the Dark Knight's shoes.

In other Batman-related news, the big "Gotham" a TV show that will focus on a young Bruce Wayne [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131652-Batman-vs-Superman-Production-Wont-Be-Delayed-As-Rumored] and how he becomes the Batman.

I used to make boomerangs out of ply wood as a kid.
It's not that hard to make them in all kinds of shapes once you understand the principle of their structure.

I remember throwing a neon-green plastic boomerang as a child and consistently bonking myself on the head with it. Never once caught it with anything other than my big, stupid brow.

Not really something Batman could just pull out of his utility belt though.

It's always pretty cool though to see people turn nerd dreams into practicality.

That's the first time I've seen a proper batarang that actually come back like a boomerang should! The otehr batarang I have seen (Man at Arms and DC Nation short) were more like a flying disc weapon.
Man with that size it more suited for Captain Boomerang (a vaillain from DC comic) to have not Batman.

Not to diss or anything, but isn't the main feature of the batarang that it comes back even after hitting something? Without that it's just a boomerang in a cool shape.

Of course, I know this feature is ridonculous to ask for, I guess I'm just surprised a bat-shaped boomerang didn't seem to exist before.

When I saw him throw that one, it made me think of something I'd never considered before...

When you throw a boomerang, very soon there's gonna be a piece of wood flying straight at you, spinning rapidly. A terrifying thought for the uncoordinated.

This is just a perfectly ordinary boomerang shape with some frills at the edges...
"by crafting a real life Batarang that actually returns when thrown"

The Batarang is supposed to be a shuriken, and very small.
Even if it were to return, it'd have to be about small enough to fit in the hand/utility belt.

This thing really isn't worth an article... :\

Okay, so I know this is nothing like an actual batarang, but holy crap that thing is cool. Any guesses on how long before he's ordered to cease and desist for copyright infringement? Honestly surprised we haven't seen that added as an update yet.

Holy catch phrase, Batman! The speed of the first return was _not_ what I'd expected.

I am thoroughly impressed.

I could never get it to come back to me.... :(

OT: I don't know what's cooler, the design or the way the guy just caught it.

If anyone silly enough to want to just buy this just to try it they should really remember "Its technically a weapon that was originally designed to hunt animals"

Now idk if rumors of boomerangs were true about decapitations but why tempt fate

Still pretty cool, but wouldnt be practical for a vigilante

I actually had the same thought.
When he threw it the first time and after a while said something like "oh-uh", and then it came right back into his lap.
I can just see the comcial side of someone running aways from a boomerang over a field of snow xD

When you put it that way, yeah, it's very scary. XD

Yep. Same here. Since it's for commercial purposes, I assume he's naming them "Bat Boomerang" like in the vid just to avoid copyright issues.

Basically yeah. All he's "accomplished" is making a ridiculous-shaped boomerang that performs the incredible feat of doing what a sensibly-shaped ordinary boomerang already does. Yay, I guess?

Well, as long as that something isnt very heavy, why not. i had my boomerang colide with multiple plastic "flying discs" when i was a kid as we used to throw 5 at a time or so, it just kinda plowed through them. it seems that boomerangs got a lot of force when coming back and would actually break other objects apart going through.
of course that wouldnt work in knocking somone out and it returning.

if you got a boomerang with sharp corners (as this seems to be) and its heavy enough to have a force enough to crush your spine then yes, it coudl decapitate you. thought from what mythbusters tested you would need an awkwardly heavy boomerang with a lot of force behind it to do that (basically you couldnt throw it that far unless your some kind of throwing athlete). now, to hit you in the next to the point of cutting it open - thats definitely possible and has happened.

Very impressive. Although, seeing the absolutely terrifying return speed of this curvy piece of solid wood I can't help thinking back to that one episode of Sherlock. >.>
