It's nice to see a dev that knows where their niche is. GTA has the serious, "realistic" side of things down pat, and it's fun. But if I want to do all sorts of crazy shit, I'll go play SR2.

Donovan said that other suggestions that people had come up with were so bad that he didn't even want to repeat them, which is quite remarkable when you consider how violent and/or over the top some of Saints Row 2 was.
Saints Row 2 was violent? When I smashed my nose in the ground, there was more blood!

OT: Well I admit the missions involving the Brotherhood and Ronin can be seen as particularly violent. Especially a select few from the Brotherhood
The Girlfriend crushing for one and a fellow saint getting dragged around behind a car
.

Its too bad they didn't try to keep the multiplayer alongside the game and try to fix it. The concept was good but the execution fell flat on it face.

I can't say I'm too broken up about the exclusion of fart-based weaponry in the upcoming sequel to the game that's in a 3-way tie for my favourite game for the XBox 360. Not that I terribly admire games that try to "push the envelope" or be "edgy" but, as many posters have previously stated, the problem caused by the presence of fart grenades isn't resulting in too much of that "edgy" quality but that it's just one of those children's cartoon jokes that inspires more collective groaning than laughter in anyone above the age of eight. But the knowledge that the idea was ultimately vetoed gives me faith that Volition will deliver the mindless fun aspect of Saints Row 2 without sacrificing the all-important "fun" part.

That in mind, they can do whatever the hell they want with the sequel, as long as I still get to make my character into a scary, fat, chainsaw-wielding biker clown.

I don't really understand why they worry about stuff like this. In Modern Warfare 2, it had the super controversial scene where you shoot up the airport. I also recall they had an option before you started the campaign that would turn off the most offensive material in the game (meaning that stage), and no one who didn't want to see it, didn't have to. It was a smart move, so why is everyone abandoning this kind of option?

It's just nice to get any shred of information about this game. I'm looking forward to completing my revenge against a certain someone. In whatever manic, crazy fashin the game lets me.

Fart bombs are appropriate for the App Store or XBLIG but not a retail game. I'd rather see them add the Pyro GX as a vehicle.

Well, according to the preview in this month's Game Informer, it seems there will actually be a mission where you control a tank in free-fall while fighting off other tanks that are in free-fall.

So... yeah.

EDIT: Also, someone showed me this, and I feel its relevant:

So glad SR3 is coming to PC. SR2 was a blast.

Regarding the article: Fox News to misinterpret in 5... 4... 3...

At first I was worried they were toning down the ridiculousness for Saint's Row 3, then I read the last sentence with the flying tanks and taking on a military force with a sex toy that has raised my spirits

Can't wait, I still wanna hear something on co-op, sure it was laggy as hell but I loved it.
Nothing like having a buddy drive a plane while you surf on it in a ninja costume, mmmhm.

They are MAKING A SAINTS ROW 3?!

I think that this year will pretty much be remembered for the pinnacle of crazy over top videogames with incredibly goofy humour and hilarious storytelling.

And what better a note to end the year on than Saints Row?

I'm glad they still know where the line between 'ridiculous situations' and 'childish situations' lies. Saints' Row is cool because on the surface it's not that different from 'serious' games - they just use the same pieces in a different way.

I also hope the main character is less psychotic this time. Or someone else.

Yeah, fart in a jar is pretty lame. Good call on scrapping that one. This sounds pretty exciting though, I really enjoyed Saints Row 2 and this sounds just as ridiculous and awesome. All I hope they fix is that silly "respect" system to unlock missions and maybe put a little more variety in the female voice actors (because with a game that silly, it's just that much more funny to watch a skinny girl pick up and toss around countless huge thugs).
Agreed.

I loved Saints Row 2 - all I truly want from a sequel is more of that with some prettier graphics and more solid presentation (smarter AI wouldn't hurt).
Yes, some improvements there would also be most welcome.

And OH! How did I forget...THEY NEED TO FIX THE FUCKING HELICOPTER CONTROLS. I know sandbox game + helicopters usually = shit, but come on. That was by far the worst helicopter I've ever piloted in a game. Actually Just Cause 2 did the helicopters quite well IMO. They should just copy/paste that control scheme.

And finally...

Captcha: hernalac free

Sweet! I've always wanted a free hernalac! Suck it Escapists, you can all wallow in your envy now :p

So ironic.... so very very ironic (or hypercritical), that they'd consider including a sex toy in the game, but not for something positive like pleasurable sexual acts, but for something negative like brutal murder. Why? Plenty of reasons, a good start being that depictions of sex are considered more repulsive than depictions of murder.

I will never get the mentality.
