I know this news is over a week old but I really want to hear what most of you think.(If you don't like or don't know Dimmu Borgir please spare us your comments so we can stay on point). Apparently, Mustis was fired for greed and Vortex for laziness, on an official statement from the remaining Silenoz, Shagrath and Galder it was also said that somebody forgot there instrument when there was a show to do and that somebody also has a bit of a drinking problem (though there was no indication who did what or if one person did both. Considering that Vortex is being accused of laziness I would have to pin these accusations on him (though I really don't know). Also I have seen the band without there make up and would have to say it is hard to imagine Mustis "acting like a typical rock star".
I won't say that Mustis and Vortex made the band what it is today but I won't even bother denying that they had a major influence on it's music. But the bottom line is the band has come a long way and I believe that the loss of these 2 member is merely a bump in the road. All three of the remaining members are extremely versatile musicians(Galder pulled a Dethklok on us and made the last Old Man's Child album almost single handedly)seeing as how throughout the history of the band they constantly changed positions. But the bottom line is Mustis is very replaceable, with the exception of the last album all the orchestral were done by an actual Orchestra, not to mention that Shagrath can also play keyboard. As much as I enjoyed Vortex and the voice he brought to the band, he was not a great bassist and ultimately replaceable by all the remaining members (who if I am correct can all play guitar, bass and do vocals though none can do clean vocals like he could).
Fellow metal heads and especially black metal heads will be gunning for me for making this comparison but all I have to say is losing members is not the end of the world. For example, (please push and weapons near your safely across the room for every bodies safety) the rap group Three 6 Mafia has lost tons of members through the years (though Lord Infamous will be excused for legal reasons he couldn't make the last 2 albums) and have grown nothing short of stronger. I expect the same for Dimmu and if they still want some clean vocals I'm sure there are at least a thousand people out there who can do it better than Vortex. Good luck to Dimmu Borgir. I hope Vortex works on his work ethic.
But lastly (this gets a special line), shame on you Mustis. Trying to selling one of your costumes on ebay with an In Sorte Diaboli CD signed only by yourself is "low", extremely low and shows that you have little respect for your former band mates. So you did bring in some significant components to the band's music but you are, excuse me, were part of a group of 5 in which everybody played a part. You deserve no more writing credit than what you got (and you got alot from what I see when i flip through the booklets of my Dimmu CDs).
