Wait, what? Killzone 2 doesn't have bad controls!?

So I was recently looking up KZ3 to see if any new info came out and along the way I came across quite a few comments about KZ2's controls. I for one did initially think the game's controls were terrible and dismissed it. I then saw KZ3 at E3 and started playing it again to see if my second impression would be different.

After a few weeks learning how to be good at the game (b/c unlike 80% of shooters this days you actually need to learn how to play this game to be good) I fell in love. I think many people dismissed the game because they were so used to playing Halo's and COD's where the game's had extremely easy aimng mechanics and rather than learn how to play a much more difficult game they dismiss it.

Somehow I think COD's popularity is more to do with its 66ms input lag compared to the rediculous 150ms of killzone 2, also 60fps vs 30fps makes for a much smoother and responsive game but at the expense of more graphical effects

It just feels heavy and chunky, which doesn't lead to very fluid or fast paced action, which bores people.

It is more realistic than the paper light guns of other games but realism is not always good.

EDIT. You ever had numb feet? Ever try walking with numb feet? Thats how KZ2 feels.

Many people disagree with my statement that KZ has great controls so I would like to know what in particular turned them off.

I always though the controls were fine. It was finding a none-laggy, fun lobby that wasn't.

I hated the ADS control. When a designer uses the right analogue click as an aiming tool I have major issues. It's just counter intuitive for me. I don't see how making it intentionally more awkward is a point in it's favour. I'm all for making games harder. But making the controls annoying isn't the right way to go with that I fear.
Are you talking about button placement? You can always change it to Alternate B. Its the same as MW2

My issue was with how flaky they tended to be. For example, hitting L2 (or the Xbox counterpart) to latch onto cover is all well and good, *if* it is reliable. But KZ2 seemed way too finicky about what constituted a "wall", and even then cover wasn't worth anything since your character doesn't know how to duck his head.

All I remember is that when I tried to play it you had to press R3 to ADS. I couldn't get used to that. Atleast not in a game that you had to ADyS quickly. Then be able to shift out quickly.

And that is most certainly not what cod uses. For a PS3 cod uses L1 to ADS. I always change that to L2. And it's a hold down button. Not a toggle like R3. And I did look for a way to change that but I couldn't find one for the ADS capability.
Alternative B was mapped like this:

ALTERNATE 2
L1 - Zoom
L2 - Crouch
R1 - Fire
R2 - Grenade

^ - Swap Weapon
[] - Reload/Pick up weapon (Hold)
O - Use
X - Jump

Left Analogue - Movement
Right Analogue - Look
L3 - Sprint
R3 - Close Combat

I simply couldn't aim at all. It was the first fps I played on my ps3 after selling my 360, so at first I thought I just hadn't gotten used to the controller. I downloaded the demos for COD and bad company though and had no problem. The aiming seemed to build up speed or something, it would barely move the target and then it would streak across, jumping over the bad guy entirely. I just couldn't get used to it.

I also really didn't like the cover mechanic. And the default control scheme was bizarre for no particular reason. If I remember R3 was ADS, and it was a toggle on/off. Yeah, you can change it to the more standard COD scheme, but why not make the standard scheme default? Does anyone here play with the default scheme? If so, can you explain the advantage? It seemed like the developers were just being arbitrary in that department.

Even though I got use to the controls I never really liked it, personally I prefer the CoD scheme and if KZ wants to be innovative they could try other things instead of purposely messing up the controls just to give the guns a sense of weight.

How about a better story, some RPG elements, less linear zones, giving me the chance to murder the friendly AI like Rico, that blundering obnoxious idiot....-_-
