Wake Up to New Insomniac Game By September

The studio behind Ratchet & Clank and Resistance will reveal their latest PlayStation 3 game before the next PAX.

Insomniac Games' last release was multiplatform [http://www.amazon.com/Ratchet-Clank-Future-Crack-Playstation-3/dp/B00275A7LI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280612721&sr=1-1] developer has been silent about its current project. That silence will end sometime between now and September, as the studio announced in its recent newsletter that it'll reveal a new upcoming game before the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo.

Yes, it's an announcement of an announcement, but by now I'm getting pretty comfortable with these. PAX 2010 runs from September 3-5, and Insomniac won't only be unveiling its latest title, but showing it off in a PAX panel on September 4 where it will be demoed and discussed with G4's Adam Sessler as moderator.

We might get to see some actual gameplay when Insomniac announces whatever it plans to announce, as it says a trailer will be instantly sent out to Insomniac newsletter subscribers. However, some trailers can be pretty bad, so it might not feature gameplay at all.

So what could the game be? Resistance 3 is due to show its face, with a billboard accidentally revealing it Quest for Booty [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95373-Billboard-Announces-Resistance-3-Very-Very-Early], wouldn't be surprising either.

Insomniac calls the game "our upcoming PlayStation 3 project," which is language that indicates it's not a part of the deal the studio signed with EA Partners to develop a multiplatform game. I know I won't be able to get to sleep trying to figure out what it's going to be.

Insomniac can do no wrong, in my eyes.

I am just glad they are gracing my humble 360 with their presence.

Since this next game is a PS3 game, it's probably Resistance 3.

It's obviously Resistance 3. The billboard that accidentally revealed R3 is in a movie coming out in 2011. They've got to announce R3 soon in order to hype it for a release next year. And if it was DLC for R&C, I doubt they would make such a big deal about it.

Maybe they went back to their roots and remade Spyro the Dragon. MASSIVE longshot I know but I just want to play Spyro again...

Sucker Punch wants Sly Cooper back as well. Sadly(?) we'll have to wait until after inFamous 2.

Resistance 3....has to be. After the ending of Resistance 2, no telling what they'll do with the story

I've heard somewhere that Crack In Time is going to be the last R&C game for this console generation. Not sure about the credibility of the source though.

Anyway, it's gotta be Resistance 3... can't say i'm intrested, but i know people who are. I really wonder what's their new multiplatform IP will be (what genre? what kind of attitude?), but it's objectively too early for them to unveil it, it's probably not ready yet.

After the cliffhanger ending of Resistance 2, I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really hope it's Resistance 3.

As much as I would dry hump Insomniacs leg for it to be the next Ratchet and Clank, you are probably right.

As much as I love all of Insomniac's past work, I've got my fingers crossed for something new. I don't think they can take Ratchet and Clank anywhere new anymore, and I've become a little jaded to the formula now. I wasn't really a huge fan of Resistance, I must admit, but that's mainly because it was an FPS.

I'm hoping they can come up with something fresh that can match the level of polish that Uncharted receives from Naughty Dog.

No wrong at all, Insomniac is one of the top developers that have consistently made awesome games for me, next to Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Team ICO (yeah yeah, all PS3 developers, but wait, there's more!), VALVe (see?), and to some extents EA and Bioware, so whatever the next game will be I will surely be waiting in line with my moolah at hand (or in the download queue as the case may be).

So yes, I love Insomniac, I would have their babies if possible. THe only real complaint I have with their games, specifically the R+C games, is that I always finish them too soon. Partly because they've gotten a bit shorter, but mostly because I can never put them down when I start the game up. It's a blessing and a curse.

...so yeah, Insomniac, I love you, please don't tarnish your record of orgasmically awesome games (well, maybe not that extreme...)

Yeah, you are right, the R+C formulae is getting a bit stale. Regardless, I still love their games, and Resistance was a pretty interesting direction for Insomniac. Remember, their first game was an FPS so it was interesting to see their take of the genre after so long. Resistance 2, in my opinion, really was a step down from the original since it basically borrowed everything else from other FPSs that made the first Resistance at least moderatly original; regenerating health, only 2 weapons to carry+'nades, gritty marine guy, etc... The style of gameplay that both R1 and R2 had doesn't really fit the regenerating health model and only being able to carry 2 weapons severely cut the creativity and strategy behind combat. If there's a rocket launcher and a regular assault rifle, it's already easy to guess how you're going to kill the enemies here.

BUT, regardless, the inevitable Resistance 3 really does pique my interest and it's interesting to see Insomniac spread their wings a big and explore other genres. I can't wait for Insomniac to finish up the Controler Config Triology (R1, R2, R3, get it? Har'd'harhar!)
