So apparently a friend recently told me that Wakfu has popped up on Steam and indeedy it has.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/215080/

I loved watching the tv series about 2 years ago and loved watching the spinoff series (from the original game) Dofus: treasures of Kerub.

I loved the art style they used and animation techniques, the game itself is turn based like Disgaea and it can be fun with the different classes, I loved playing the Xelor class because rather than taking my turns to move closer to my enemy I would put down my time dial and save up my turns as they edged closer to me which meant I could both teleport around my dial and unleash more powerful attacks.

There was only one main glaring issue for me though when I originally played the game and that was how they divided the players, see the game was meant to be F2P and what we got was restrictions which limited F2P players to a certain degree, restrictions like:

1) Not being able to trade with others

2)Not being able to vote for govenor or anyone else

3)Not being able to create your own Kamas (currency)

4)Not being able to have many professions

5)Not being able to learn certain professions (Ones that were only available to sub players)

6)Not being able to chat with the subs

7)Not being able to group up for dungeons, the list goes on.

There was also an outline of the benefits to subbing the game on Dtoid back in 2012.

http://www.destructoid.com/benefits-of-subscribing-to-wakfu-outlined-220978.phtml

But now after 2 years they've apparently made some changes to the model and not everything is locked off anymore and they just use a few booster packs and a cash shop now which sounds reasonable and great for F2P players like myself, I might even sub at one point but I think it might be worth me checking it out once more, it being on Steam I suppose with the apparent changes is enough of a nudge to give it a second shot.

I'd like to ask, did anyone here originally play the game?, if so how did you feel about it and are you going to give it another shot or not? and what are your thoughts on the game in general?.

I do wonder though if they've added Nox into the game as a boss though I doubt it.

I played it back in the Beta, a while after that, and a few months ago on Wakfu SEA. I've also played Dofus quite a few years back.

It's usually the friends and the style that keep me coming back. It's a kind of game that's grindy as hell and I mean a shitload of grinding but the gameplay style and the charm usually has me come back for a month or so every few years.

*Raises hands happily*

It's...better...especially as of late....

See - there was always one major problem in Wakfu/Dofus for me and that was the stat known as 'Control', it limited how many summons/traps/dolls/etc you could have out of the field. Damn near impossible to get a number of control over 3 for at least 30 levels (and this isn't the type of game that, without a party, you can grit your teeth and grind through. At least, not for me).

In the most recent changes to the game you can finally get a little control before then. Now it feels like Sadidas (forest/voodoo using class) and Ozymadidas (Summoner/monster controller/demon class) are a little more viable.

Specifically, here's how stats worked before.

You got 5 points every level. Simple right?
Well, investing those points went between hp, dodge (getting out of melee attack range cost: 3 points per point), Lock (keeping someone in melee attack range cost: 3 points per point), Range (increasing range on your abilities cost: varying depending on character but I believe it was 25 points to 1 point), AP (increases amount of actions you can do, cost: 125-150 points).

Just want to increase your dmg?
Well which kind?
Earth, Air, Fire and Water - all 2-3 points a piece depending on the update/version.

Plus, you can't spend the same point twice - IE, if you wanted more ap through your leveling points...you couldn't spend a single one til 25.

Your gear also had to be either heavily life based or pigeonholed into one type of dmg for you to be a significant force on the battlefield on your own. Being level 29 and having lvl 8 gear sheerly because it gave your most important type of dmg higher numbers then the lvl 26 set was COMMON.

This was the most restrictive thing about the game, not the lack of trading but the lack of stats - you seriously had to specialize.

Now stats/equipment work as such;
You get a point specifically meant for that level to match the point usage.
Health/Lock/Dodge/Resistances all cost 1 ap.
Damage of all kinds + some resistance to whatever dmg type you want? 1 ap per 4 levels (but you get +5% dmg for every point)
More ap/range? - Reach lvl 25.

Equipment changes make it alot better to - most equipment now just boosts ALL your damage instead of specifically ONE type of dmg. you also do a crap ton more dmg just as a player alone - by the end of the 2-4 starting quests you've got yourself 2 pieces of special equipment that GREATLY increase your starting dmg (More then 30 percent).

But originally it was the removal of the free survival arena that pushed me away - that was literally the only way to level up massively in a short amount of time if you had skill. Now I have 2 moderately close to mid lvl characters and 3 others who I constantly consider deleting sheerly out of boredom. I've been trying as of late to pick it back up though...the recent changes help.

I also forgot to mention a short list of things that aren't locked anymore;
I believe leveling is unlimited now,
You can get kamas from enemies - with just a little grinding I had over 1k in a very short amount of time.
There is an auction house you can trade in, but there doesn't seem to be any kama sinks any more and I believe we're going through a period of inflation.

Ya, I played through the (final) beta circa 2010. I had fun and it was a fresh change from all other games I was playing, even though there wasn't much content at the time. I quit however fairly fast once it was finally released, I just couldn't take some of the changes that had been made, namely the disappearance of the totem of the Sadida. Plus the fact that there was no reroll at the time, kamas had to be mined and leveling up takes forever without a guild that I just plainly stopped. I've been thinking about getting back into it recently, has the game gotten better? Are the classes more fun to play, or just as tedious where you had to concentrate on like only 3 to 5 spells?

Game better?

Yeah I'd say so.

Classes more fun to play?

Yeah, specifically with the recent changes I'd say air based Ultra-powerful doll Sadida is a joy. You no longer have to concentrate on 3 to 5 spells, in fact its better if you don't. The most recent update brought a CRAP TON more 'All Damage plus' equipment and all points you put into your damage, increase ALL of your 3 different types of dmg, along with giving you a varying version of resist.

Best of luck in the new World of Twelve.
