Wanna Build An NES Arcade Cabinet?

Have you ever wanted to build your own miniature retro arcade cabinet? Instructables user "russm313" has you covered.

Mr. "russm313" has uploaded an extremely comprehensive guide [http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-Nintendo-arcade/] to the site that walks you through the entire process of constructing the NES-themed miniature arcade cabinet you see at right.

While there are a few parts that might be slightly difficult to get your hands on -- NES controller ports from a Four Score multiplayer adaptor, for instance -- everything he used seems to be extremely common and, best of all, relatively inexpensive.

Even better, the actual construction of the cabinet is quite simple. It seems about as difficult as extremely basic electrical work, and if you've ever soldered before you should have no problem snapping together your own tiny arcade machine.

The best part of all of this is that if you have the skill to get this thing up and running it should be no trouble to convert the cabinet to play absolutely any arcade game you want.

Assuming, of course, that you own the rights to them. Don't let us catch you wearing an eyepatch, junior!

What an excellent idea. But why not just hide a NES in there, and put the cartridge in the top? That would be way cooler...

My rich sister already has an arcade cabinet, fitted with an emulator.

Fun to play!

Does he give an estimate on how much the supplies cost? I also didn't see him say how much time it took him...

Ahhh the Genesis.
What can I say it's a big thing for me, it was the first system I played.

I actually built a computer out of an old NES recently. Gotta tell you, stuff like this makes me squee in joy. I even turned an old Super Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge that someone accidently pulled the ROM chip out, into an external HDD. Next is my attempt at a Super Nintendo PC, or Genesis... SQUEE!

Can someone elaborate please? Sorry I just don't get it.
They're telling you not to pirate games.

EDIT: Wow, I spaced out on that and double posted, I believe that's a first for me in these forums. Mark your calanders.

Piracy reference. (EDIT: Damn, ninja'd)

On-topic, that is amazing. Think I know what has just happened to my spare time.

But......Where would you buy a Nes game these days?

Knowing how [small]completly insane[/small]...errr "akward" people are these days, they would probably cost a ton!

Finally! Something to do with all these spare computer parts and the Four Score adapter in the next room!

To the hardware store!

...Damn it! It would have to be half past midnight around here, wouldn't it? Cursed lack of 24 hour hardware stores around here. How's a guy supposed to get any work done if he can't pick up lumber at any time of his choosing, day or night?

Wait, what?

Oh, right, the topic at hand. Looks spectacular. Might have to have a look at the directions, see just how ham-handed one can be and still make one. With my Nintendo long since dead and a Wii non-existent in this house (Virtual Console being the only thing I'd have one for, and that's not enough to make me buy one), this would be a good way to get my fix of Startropics, Super Mario Bros. 3, or *shudder* Battletoads.

[sup]All of I own, I should add[/sup]

That's cute, but if you're going through all the trouble of soldering and building a cabinet you might as well go for a full MAME setup.
