Well it is a minor in most states, I had a look and assuming the infromation I read is accurate America doesn't have a single age of consent, instead each state has a different one which ranges from 16-18.

I know laws about things like incest DO vary from state to state (ie if you can marry a first cousin or something like that) but I believe the 18 year age of consent is universal.

It's fact that young girls can and will do something extremely stupid.
Try being a father, now think , would you want your young daughter (lets say 16)to be having sex with older men?
If you meant it in a way that well a 14 year old girl and a 15 year old boy ,then I consider it okay.

Because a 16-year-old is perfectly capable of given reasoned and knowledgeable consent. The bulk of the Western world has recognized this for decades. I do not consider the U.S.'s legally-implied "belief" that those under the age of 18 are incapable of making informed decisions on such matters to be a positive force in our culture and believe that giving greater credit to our teenage citizens and their ability to judge situations will have a positive effect on said culture.

Unless it can be reasonably proven that no consent was given and that it was rape in the traditional sense, my position would not change were the genders reversed.

15 seems dramatically more reasonable, yes, though further terms would likely be required. There is no concrete, universal line that can be drawn, but 15 seems far more reasonable than 18.

I do not strictly believe that we do have to have standards, but do believe rather strongly that avoiding "deep, murky waters" in issues of legality and morality is not a positive trait for either a person or a nation.

A lower age of consent and lower drinking age (among many other issues) have been functioning perfectly well in much of the western world for many years. Clinging to archaic notions of what teens are and are not capable of is no more productive or beneficial than decreeing that parents should not be in charge of moderating the content allowed in their own households.
