I read this over at Kotaku early...her name is the funniest party.
This, haha. I bet it's Leeroy's mom.

Ah well, at least she'll be enjoying her Internet Fame while in prison. I wonder if they let you play WoW there?

Not in her case.

Your brain's decision making abilities aren't even really properly formed until your twenties.

18 is a perfectly reasonable consent age, all things considered.
Like what? There's only one main difference between 16 and 18 and that involves high school graduation, and that gap could be easily closed if American education waste so much time. (No really, I don't remember the difference between 2nd and 3rd grade or 4th and 5th. They might as well condense each pair into a year.)

I'll never understand why most states will trust a 16-year-old on the road behind the wheel of two tons of speeding metal but not trust him or her with the decision to fornicate or vote.
Well I don't think most 16 year olds can really be trusted behind the wheel of two tons of speeding metal, and they can fornicate with each other all they want. Leaving the age of consent at 18 gives parents (and the state) some ability to go after those old skeeves who would fuck their children.

Besides, what makes 16 any less arbitrary than 18? Why not 15? Or 14? Puberty hits early these days.
In Canada the law is 16. However, if you are either 14 or 15, you can still have sex, just your partner has to be within five years older than you. 12 or 13, two years.

I think that's the best way to do things. The age of consent is only really a barrier to sex if there are no closeness in age exceptions. All the age of consent really means is, someone who's 50 can legally have sex with someone this age.

...I forgot where I was going with this.

Yeah, I'm having fun joking about this, but seriously here...

The FBI? I'm not familiar with much Federal Law but a component of most crimes is Intent - generally without intent you get a lesser included offense...

I have a hard time believing talking to him THAT long they can show that was ever her intent - if it "just happened" then, at best, statutory.

She isn't drop-dead gorgeous, but she's not the most hideous creature in the world, either, i doubt she would require the internet to "lure" teenagers to her evil web, etc etc.

I'm a little annoyed that the FBI didn't call bullshit on this one, as BlackWIdower said, at worst that's statutory rape.

How many missing persons did we have last year?

The funny thing about the 'age of consent' laws is that they aren't always enforced. If a 20 year old does a 17 year old, nobody typically cares. Should that 20 year old become 30 or 40, a few eyebrows are raised and a call to the authorities is not out of the question.

Statutory rape is a dumb law
(don't misread that)
Rape should be illegal no matter what
in fact rapists should be shot on site
but consensual sex shouldn't have some arbitrary number attached to it.

yes, 18 for sex is just as arbitrary as 16 for driving and 21 for drinking.

or at least make the arbitrary number a little less arbitrary, like 13, that's when everyone's hormones turn on

and I'm still talking about consensual sex not some 40 year old who lures kids into his van with the promise of candy.
I just mean 2 people who say "I love you" "I love you too" "let's do it" or "you're hot" "you're also hot" "let's do it"

there's no reason to put an age on that.

Yeah, but if someone wants to ***** about it, ie. the 17-year-old's father, that 20 year old might go to prison. Plus, that case is only illegal if the age of consent in that state is 18. Like California.

NB: Age of consent does not mean the minimum age you can have sex. It's the minimum age before statutory rape is no longer an issue. If the age of consent is 16, you can have sex with anyone older than you at age 16. Even if they are 50, and it's completely legal. That's why we have closeness in age exemptions. Of course states without closeness in age exemptions have this funny little problem. If two 16 year olds have sex in California (where the age of consent is 18) since both are below the age of consent and it's illegal to have sex with someone below the age of consent, it results in something called "mutual rape" which is just an odd thing to say in so many ways.

I'm sure true rape victims find it grossly offensive.

A 16 year old girl and a 22 year old guy?
Gross.
But the thing is that we all know that these guys that go for the younger girls very often just have sex with them and leave.
Why? Because most of them are assholes.
So yeah laws exist for a reason and this would be like saying that stealing is immoral, then comming with the arguement that "stealing is right if your poor".
Really you should think how guys think, they will say "I love you" just to have sex with you.

It's called closeness in age exemptions.

So you're saying it should be legal for a 30 year old to have sex with a 13 year old?

I just want to make sure I'm understanding you.

I don't think it matters who it's with, if your 35 and having sex in a parking lot you've got to take a good, hard look at your life.

Although...her name is great. Oh if I had been that kid...

"Oh baby, oh baby-"
"LEEEEEROOOOYYY"
