Id agree tho Starcraft is less ridiculous, only because Starcraft is just tamed down version of WH40k with rainbows and happy ponies. Streamlined to appeal to masses after GW decided not to give Blizzard the licence for their franchise.

WH40K is meant to be grotesque in every sense. Its surreal and wacky, working as intended.
Rainbows and happy ponies? You're thinking of Diablo ;)

I know it's intended to be surreal and wacky. It just puts me off, personally.

I have a hard time relating to anyone in WH40k, because it seems that everyone is just a dick. The Space Marines are fanatic superhumans; I can't relate to them. I do like the Imperial Guard because they're basically just normal people, but they're the only ones - whereas the Terrans and Jim Raynor are still just humans, just in space suits with guns.

Awesome I may have to finally join in on this MMORPG melarky. Though hope it doesn't go the way of W:AR and just drop massive numbers of users in a few years.

If it looks good I'm certainly willing to give it a shot. I just hope there's an Assault Marine class.
Same, I am not normally a stickler for graphics, but a major put off for me and MMO's is that most of them look like arse or cartoons.

Also for the love of god the combat better not be turn based.

This is gonna be pure awesome.

I can't wait to set up a...Guild...With other Escapist.

I enjoyed WAR, but it didn't hook me, I never played Fantasy before. Been into 40k since I was seven, though.

Stop buying the models (Warmachine models are better anyway) but the setting is on of the best around.

Also, don't worry, we'll only tear you limb from limb if you say SC didn't steal concepts from 40k.

But yeah, can't wait to see it, the graphics for it looks like the best MMO I've ever seen, hope it's awesome!

Last I heard, the races were Orks. There as something about Imperium, Eldar and Chaos too, but I can't think of a single reason why anyone would want to play them (Oooh I can, I'll play a Catachan Jungle Fighter. And ONLY a Catachan Jungle Fighter) when they can play DA ORKSEZ!
Hence the wait for E3 and more information.
You can't make a WH40K game with only eldar, orks and humans(space marines included).
You need the giant "bugs",the "undead", the pseudo good guys...I hope the devs are smart enough to put alot of content at launch, lest it becomes one of those MMOs that need 5 or 6 updates to be good, but falls off everyone's radar before it happens.
Oh God I hope not. Tyranids and Necrons would be awful as PCs. I could see Genestealer Cults (NOT Genestealers themselves), but everything purely Tyranid works on an instinctual level that just doesn't gel with the conscious thought of a player. Same with Necrons, unless you want them to start with Lords while everyone else is still a Guardsman?

Tau COULD work, but only if THQ is willing to piss off many more fans who are well aware that only a tiny number of Tau go rogue and start thinking for themselves in a Tau lifetime, and hell, even most of them still work subconsciously for the Empire.

Conversely, Humans of both Chaos and Imperial variety and Orks work fine, and have a history of doing whatever they want. While I have a horrible feeling the Eldar are going to be Craftworld Eldar (bletch), they could be Pirates and get away with murder (literally, figuratively and metaphorically). Dark Eldar work fine, because their entire society works around doing what you want, when you want to do it. Sadly they won't happen, because Games Workshop have pretended they don't exist ever since they released 3rd Ed.

Frankly, I don't even want to see Space Marines as player-characters. I know they'll be in there, but they'll either be as powerful as they should be and obliterate everything in front of them, or laughably scaled down to balance them out and be killable by Grots. Also, no Space Marine, not even a Scout, should be subjected to "Princeps Arcturus Grusk has lost the keys to his Warhound Titan! He last had them near the Grox pens, and needs you to go kill ten of them to find them! For the EMPEROR/TZEENCH/MORK/KHAINE! [Click to accept]"

I agree. Tyranids and Necrons can't be done.

Maybe something along the lines of the Inquisition could be implemented for human characters; a player has a very slim chance of being approached by an Inquisitor, and is invited to join the Inquisition. Then you get even more free will once you rank up to Acolyte or Junior Inquisitor. Inquisitors are the only Imperial humans who can go round freely killing other Imperial players.

Will certainly try it out. No idea how they are going to balance it though.

Squeee!!! I'm so exited. I mean it's probably not going to be any good as the whole point of 40K is working together as a giant army not just individuals or small bands (then again I've had fun with Kill Team). Nevertheless my interest is piqued.

Fingers crossed for an Inquisitor style MMO.

I really don't think they'll be able to balance it out with having all the different races in there.

And Inquisitor has so much awesomeness to fall back on.

Definitely going to try it. For me it all boils down to what races and factions will be available.
If you are only allowed to play as "humans", I will be disappointed.
The game must have Tau, Chaos Daemons, Tyranids, Necrons, Dark Eldar, Eldar and Orks to be awesome, that won't be easy.

I myself would probably play an Eldar; I play them on the tabletop.
My space marines would rape you any day of the week.

OT: I hope it's good, I might just have to try it. Sadly, I don't know much bout WH40K.

I might just stay with mai Space Marines.

I'd play it if:
a) it's done well for all races,
b) it isn't subscription-based,
and c) there's enough incentive for people to play as more than just power-armoured brutes.
b) will be a deciding factor for me. It'll also be important if I want to convince my friends to buy this thing.

as for a)... do you think you can become a dreadnaught? I really wanna be a dreadnaught...

This will be the only MMO that could possibly make me not play the new KOtoR.

well, im looking forward to this, and if i remember corectly Starcraft was suposed to be a 40k game, but Games Workshop (the ones who own the warhammer and 40k licences) rejected it but agreed to the game being released if they changed the grapics and the stuff related to 40k. Im guessing somone went Doh! after that desition.... anyway, i got a mental image of tanking as a imperial guard tank in a tank.... i love my tanks....

I still think that the only truly good Video Game interpretations of Warhammer in general have been the RTS' like Bloodbowl (to an extent) and Dawn of War. If they have the Tyranids in it at any point though, I'll jump on until I hit the lvl cap, get bored, and go back to painting my Forge World Bio-Titan
