I'm familiar with it and I know a lot of people that used to be super into it but I've never played it myself.

Part of me dies inside every time I see one of the models. They're somehow boring and ugly at the same time.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I used to play it a good amount. I still have my khador army, but its been awhile since I played.

Skorne Empire FTW!

I just wish Games Workshop didn't have such a stranglehold on the market - even if it's shrunk considerably over the years, it still seems to get more exposure than the rest of the hobby combined.

I dig the Everblight models with their Lovecraft-influenced aesthetic. I played a couple demo games some months back, but it didn't exactly rock my world. The game including so few models and focusing strictly on combat makes it feel somehow limited. Or maybe 11 years of Games Workshop games have incorrigibly tainted my view of miniature games, and I can't recognize brilliance if you killed my whole family with it.

Could be worse.

Could be Age of Sigmar models. Holy shit talk about generic.

Change this to knowing one dude and that's my situation. I'd play it ut my two options are either coasters or waiting until I have the money for the figs.

My position hasn't changed since our time in the Warhammer followers group. Aesthetically/thematically the miniatures do nothing for me. Rules wise I haven't bothered learning any of the new editions of 40K properly, let alone spending the effort to learn a completely new system.

I have a legion of everblight starter set that I play with every now and again when the local games shop has someone with a warmahordes army, other than that I don't play regularly nor do I particularly care for it but it satisfies the miniature wargaming itch without selling my soul to afford a small 40k army

I have a Cygnar army kicking around. Why yes I'm boring.

But I have a fondness for my Trenchers. I've had my Trenchers tank basically everything in the game and walk away. Khador Jacks? No problem. Trollkin axes coming in? No sweat. Horde of Everblight that's just nothing but fangs? Bring it. They were just so fun to see tank/dodge stuff.

And then Fire. It was the weirdest thing. Poison rolls function about the same way but my boys could tank it easy. Fire howerver, was a killer. My Trenchers went up faster than oil covered matches exposed to naplam. They were known as the Matchstickes around the shop. Sigh.

Haven't payed it, but I'd like to. Since GW have gone out of their way to fuck up their flagship franchises, it'd be nice to play something else. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who plays it where I live (it's all 40k here still).

I play.
The models are awful but the rules are solid and the game is more cerebral than Warhammer. The learning curve is steeeeeep though and some communties are super competitive so it's not always easy for newbies to get into it

Faction(s)?

In fairness, the "super-competitive" bit can be applied to most systems, one of my local clubs has a bunch of 40K guys who are massive power-listers and a few newer players essentially got crushed out... same can happen with WMH, though... yeah, play 75 in your second game, Haley2/SW/double SL's to face... eh... more the player than the system...

If a half decent (ex)-Press Ganger is about, it's usually not a problem.

I backed and played the TBS game and I collect and paint some of the Cyngar minis (Black 13th are a particular favorite). But i've never actually played the boardgame. Dunno if that counts

You like the Black 13th models?! The old ones? A Cygnar playing acquaintance positively despises them because they were seemingly scaled and proportioned for 16mm i/o 28mm (like old H1...). The re-sculpt is miles better (Doug Hamilton involvement unknown... but usually prayed for...)...

Khador, Legion, Cyriss, Circle, Cygnar, Minions. In that order. Grymkin as well soon.

Yes, 40k can be competitive but Warmahordes has a level of player skill that Warhammer doesn't. You can turn up to a 40k game with a netlist having never played before and win at 40k. A newbie can try running a netlist in Warmahordes but an experienced player will destroy them. Some players don't know how to dial back on the player skill aspect. Though there is a point where the training wheels nedd to come off.

I never liked the look of the models so I never touched the system.

I started out with Warhammer 40K back in 3rd edition when Tyranids were released (and then Chaos Marines with the 3.5 dex) and picked up fantasy alongside it when Tomb Kings were released (RIP in Peace), then jumped to Tzeentch all the way to Age of Sigmar. At first I didn't like Age of Sigmar because it killed the Fantasy community but I've warmed up to it (especially with Disciples of Tzeentch).

I've stopped playing 40K because it's a convoluted mess where you need 12 books to play a army and you might as well not bother if you're playing against any of the popular armies that get the most attention and best rules.

I also play the Batman miniature game (Two-face) and I've got into some of the GW specialist games Blood Bowl and currently reading the rules for Necromunda Shadow Wars: Armageddon.
