Warner Bros. CEO Agrees With NBC Passing on Wonder Woman

Not many people are all that upset with NBC passing on that Wonder Woman TV show, including the CEO of Warner Bros.

When NBC decided to pass on David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman, nobody was really all that surprised. Between <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108612-Take-a-Peek-at-New-TV-Wonder-Womans-Boobalicious-Duds>the first costume, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108876-Wonder-Woman-Costume-Revised-for-TV-Pilot>the second costume, and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.283649-NBC-Turns-Down-Wonder-Woman-Pilot?page=1>a script that generally sounded fairly underwhelming, it honestly sounded like passing on the show was for the best. And you know what? An executive at Warner Bros. is pretty understanding about the whole thing.

Since Warner Bros. owns DC Comics, the studio would've produced the show. Warner Bros. CEO Peter Roth recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the ill-fated show, which he believes was pretty full of promise. However, he thinks it makes sense that the channel passed on the pilot:

"[A]fter seeing the announcement of the NBC schedule, I now understand and agree with Bob [Greenblatt, NBC executive] that it doesn't necessarily fit particularly well with their schedule. As well-crafted and contemporized as it was, it was a big and radical shift for viewers to embrace this new idea - and that may, to some degree, have had to do with why it didn't make it."

Roth was asked a follow-up questiona bout whether or not the show might appear on a different channel, which he could neither confirm nor deny. So, you know, true believers in the Amazonian princess can hold onto the faint hope that the show might be aired somewhere else.

Now, on a totally separate note: Remember how it was promised that Wonder Woman <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109250-New-Wonder-Woman-Will-Wear-Those-Little-Shorts>would totally wear "those little shorts"? Well, as you've probably guessed, the included photo here fulfills that promise. The picture was posted by a fan who got to visit the set when the pilot was in production.

I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Kelley and his crew had released some promo photos of Adrianne Palicki in the classic outfit instead of the ones that were shown off to the public. I'm not exactly wild about it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it wouldn't have been as widely-reviled as the retconned costume was.

It's odd, but "those little shorts" seem to make the whole thing seem better.

Er... uh, well, it's still for the best. The premise seemed a bit dumb. Maybe if it was retooled with a different premise, one more closely related to the comics, it might actually work. Wonder Woman is a character who would translate well to the small screen, if done properly.

Regardless, those shorts certainly work... I mean, um... uh... I got nothin'.

What a surprise, the terrible-sounding Wonder Woman show was terrible. Right decision, if you ask me, they've got a hard enough time pleasing the comic book fans when it comes to changing Wonder Woman's image. They should've learned from the flak DC got from the infamous "bomber jacket" design.

As an aside, that outfit looks... unflattering... on the actress. She's too stick-figure thin to wear it well. It only really works if there's muscle for it to accent.

Everything we saw made it look like the show was ripped kicking and screaming out of the 80's.
Cheesy, low budget and no respect for the source material.

Probably for the best that it died.
They can save the potentially powerful brand name for a movie. Not that we've had a good DC superhero movie outside of Batman in decades....

Perhaps the success of Thor will inspire/provide financial data to the studios that a crazy absurd hero can work when done seriously.

Anyway, I was a little disappointed when they said the show wasn't picked up. I wanted to a least see one or two episodes. Stilling wondering about the Raven T.V. show they're going to make eventually. THAT will be interesting.

While it is better, the costume still has that tacky Halloween feel to it. But the biggest problem was always the terrible, terrible Ally McBeal-esque premise for the show. I hope this means they will move on a film now, but it probably means we won't be hearing anything for years.

Harsh buzzkill. We need a good superhero tv series, hasn't been the same since Heroes Series 2 and 3. 4 wasn't too bad.

Maybe Marvel with their own production studio will get the hint and make a series themselves.

Since when is remaking '70s television shows "radical"?

I'm not advocating for the show at all. It may be just as well NBC is passing on it; in fact, it probably is. It just seems like this being justified by the show's "radical" nature except on, you know, not being very good, is a collection of weasel words.

I don't expect the production company to say anything different than that, but I might expect the Escapist to call them out on it a bit more aggressively instead of just sniping a bit in the intro and then letting the quote slide.

I probably would have ended up watching this. I liked Birds of Prey after all and, that was (as far as I remember) pretty far removed from Batman and, the familiar villains and, side characters...from what I remember anyway. Of course the main reason I would have watched this would have been for the bondage to watch something other than straight-up cartoons.
