Watch the Beginning of Alan Wake Online

Want to see parts of the first few levels in Remedy's upcoming psychological thriller Alan Wake [http://www.amazon.com/Alan-Wake-Xbox-360/dp/B0010AYJXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1279565278&sr=1-1]? One helpful fan has posted six minutes of excerpts from the game's beginning online.

[gameblogfr=3435]

Alan Wake, a "psychological action" title about a novelist who takes a getaway with his wife to a remote village to help him with his writers' block only to find crazy sh*t going down, was one of the most highly-anticipated titles for the Xbox 360 when it was originally announced in 2005. Now, five years later, it's actually seeing the light of day, scheduled for release in May.

And judging by the six or so minutes of clips from the game, it's looking pretty good. I'm particularly interested by the mechanic where you need to shine your flashlight at monsters in order to make them vulnerable. It has the potential to get very annoying if used incorrectly, but it could also be very effective in communicating a feeling of dread or vulnerability, since it seems that Alan moves more slowly when he's got his flashlight up.

The game is out on May 18th in the US, and May 21st in the UK and Europe.

Isn't this just Secret Window the video game? I hope that it isn't because that movie sucked, but I guess we'll see.

*guy gets stabbed with axe. Sound effect exactly the same as when you just hack on a tree*

*Huge container thingy hits you in the face: sound effect: Boink*

Hilarious little things. But yes, it's looking pretty damn amazing.

Also, the sung/god/...thing has an awful voice-actor. So boring. I'd prefer a more divine voice. Like Christopher Walken!

I'm just glad whenever someone makes a game that is not
1. Super Mario variations
2. Space marines being manly men (e.g. Halo, Gears of War)
3. American soldiers in war being manly men (e.g. Call of Duty, Battlefield)

Gogo variation of games!

Was excited, and continue to be.. although the blinking, talking light kind of worries me.

I hope it'll come for the PS3. for now it's an exclusive, but anything can happen in the next year or so, right? Right?

I like the look but it has a very Silent Hill feel to it. Not saying that is a bad thing exactly but that is not my kind of game to play, I prefer to be a spectator like with Condemned.

The Light sort of sounded like Vigil from Mass Effect. Might have just been the voice modification, but still...

Looks very nice. It seems very set-piece reliant (hopefully that is just because of the "trailer gameplay" showed finished spectacles to wow us).

Also hopefully the torch mechanic and the shouts from the enemy whenever they spawn won't become tiresome.

The shadow-detail looks really good.

I don't care for Alan's voice too much, though.

Certainly going to Gamefly this one.

You mean they're actually trying to get people to buy Alan Wake by advertizing on the PC?

They couldn't reach the same number of people if they only showed clips through LIVE, so they use the platform they canceled it for... the PC!

I'm watching Alan Wake on the PC!

Alan wake sure looks good on my PC!

PC!

Such a shame there will be no PC version, but hopefully there will be a port at some time. It was originally supposed to be on PC and they worked on the PC version for about 4 years, so it's not exactly unreasonable to suggest PC gamers will see one at a later date. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I kept thinking the same thing through the entire trailer.
Damn that flashlight has mad range.
